Job Description

Role Summary

The Accounting Senior Advisor will be the lead for accounting policy across all investment asset classes and responsible for accounting production for Real Estate & Private Equity Partnerships and Derivatives. This role will work closely with Investment Management Front Office and Operational teams to assess new investment transactions implement strategic workflows and maintain a wellcontrolled accounting environment. Position is responsible for various accounting functions; including ledger close US GAAP and Statutory reporting and internal management analysis. These responsibilities require independent research of accounting guidance and proposal of policy conclusions reviewed with senior management. Candidate must use independent judgment and discretion to identify key financial and operational metrics and provide recommendations or highlights to senior management. Candidate must have a bachelors degree with accounting concentration and at least eight years of related experience.

Major Duties

  • Lead projects with matrix business partners to implement accounting for new investment strategies & transactions including research and documentation for appropriate accounting treatment and implementation of operational processes and related controls.
  • Support impact assessment of emerging investment accounting guidelines (FASB SEC NAIC) to facilitate strategic business decisions and compliance oversight. Assist in the preparation of exposure draft comment letters and implementation of new guidance.
  • Complete monthly recording and analysis of investment activity with internal and external business partners while working in a matrix environment as necessary.
  • Support recurring alternative investments accounting production including direct real estate partnerships real estate funds and private equity partnerships.
  • Lead recurring derivative accounting production and controls as well as liaison with key business partners to provide input and policy research on new and potential derivatives strategies.
  • Initiate process efficiency review and build a culture of continual process improvement.
  • Develop and maintain controls associated with reporting and operational responsibilities.
  • Perform special projects to support enterprise initiatives including supporting multiyear financial roadmap project to move current subledger systems and processes to a new/upgraded systems.
  • Prepare management reports for senior finance leaderships review of key investment balances results and trends.

Qualifications

  • Motivated proactive selfstarter who takes ownership and is results oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate with all levels
  • Public accounting experience is highly desirable
  • BS with accounting concentration CPA preferred
  • Eight or more years of accounting/finance experience
  • Experience with complex investment accounting technical issues is highly desirable
  • Experience with derivatives accounting strategy and policy is highly desirable
  • Experience with accounting for real estate & private equity partnerships is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with real estate application Yardi is a significant plus.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and evaluate financial results
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fastpaced multitasking environment with tight deadlines

The successful candidate will become an Access Person of CII required to comply with the personal trading requirements and restrictions contained in CIIs Code of Ethics.
