Job Description

Canton High School is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to join our English department for theschool year and beyond. This educator will join a vibrant and supportive team that places a high priority on collaboration creativity flexibility and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students families and staff.

Canton High School is an inclusive community for all students and staff and serves over 950 students in grades 912. Canton High School is committed to a school culture and climate that promotes academic growth and socialemotional learning for every student and ensures highquality teaching and learning through the purposeful design of rigorous and equitable student experiences. The English department serves students in all four grades and offers classes at the College Prep Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) levels.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences to meet the needs of all learners
  2. Develop lesson plans that align with state standards and districtdetermined highquality instructional practices and are culturally and linguistically responsive
  3. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  4. Continuously engage in reflective practice regarding curricula instruction and assessments
  5. Build strong relationships with students to create a culture of belonging
  6. Incorporate a variety of culturally and linguistically responsive learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  7. Identify select and implement datadriven differentiated instructional resources and methods to meet students varying needs
  8. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and resources aligned to Districtapproved curriculum and/or Massachusetts State Standards
  9. Use relevant technology to support instruction
  10. Follow and implement IEPs 504s health care plans behavior support plans etc.
  11. Observe and evaluate student performance and development using data; use data to drive decisions and adapt instruction assessments and assignments as appropriate
  12. Provide appropriate and timely feedback on assessments and/or student work
  13. Maintain accurate and complete records of students progress development and attendance as appropriate
  14. Support the social and emotional wellbeing of students during the school day
  15. Manage student behavior in the classroom and school by establishing accountability measures following the student handbook
  16. Participate in department and schoolbased professional development
  17. Communicate necessary information regularly to students colleagues and parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs
  18. Remain current in subject area pedagogy teaching resources and innovative instructional practices and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
  19. Collaborate with student services staff including special educators and other related service providers
  20. Performs other duties specifically articulated within the collective bargaining agreement and as assigned by the building principal and/or District administration

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Maintain valid Massachusetts DESE educator licensure that is appropriate for the grade level and subject area
  2. Possess a Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university in the subject area
  3. Highly qualified as defined by Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) including the completion of a teacher preparation program
  4. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  5. Wellorganized with exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
  6. Strong working knowledge of relevant instructional technologies including the Google suite

SUPERVISES: Not Applicable

WORK YEAR: 183 days

COMPENSATION: Per the Union A Collective Bargaining Agreement
