Job Description

POSITION: ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER (ELL) TEACHER

RESPONSIBLE TO: DIRECTOR OF PUPIL SERVICES/BUILDINGS PRINCIPALS

JOB GOAL: Candidate must hold a valid teaching certificate within the state of Ohio with an endorsement in TESOL. Minimum of three to five years experience teaching English as a Second Language serving the Limited English Proficient student population is preferred. Teaching experience K12 may vary. Outstanding personal/interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills; ability to keep concise records. Sensitivity to the developmental stages of children; particular sensitivity to second language development/acquisition and cultural awareness. Openness towards parent communication. Experience with technology in facilitating instruction. Willingness to be flexible in terms of teaching assignment within the school setting.



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in education from an accredited college or university or equivalent
  • Appropriate State of Ohio teaching license with TESOL endorsement
  • Meet the applicable requirements of a highly qualified teacher defined by ODEW. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board Of Education may find appropriate.
  • Embrace highperformance standards (e.g. engagement proficiency resilience etc.)
  • Maintain a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment
  • Active Listening Collaboration with stakeholders creative problem solving and good time management skills

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Establish lesson plans and implement curriculum based on Ohio LEP Standards.
  2. Implement classroom activities that support curriculum and student learning.
  3. Assist in establishing effective daily teacher schedules.
  4. Demonstrate flexible teaching: wholegroup small group individual student and coteaching.
  5. Monitor ELLs progress in English (reading writing listening and speaking) contentarea classwork attendance and general school behavior.
  6. Administer assessments of language proficiency tests for ELLs both initial and yearly standardized and maintain all documentation thereof.
  7. Prepare and maintain all LEP Plans required for state documentation for ELLs on caseload.
  8. Show knowledge of a wide range of academic scaffolds and accommodations and use of those within the contentarea classroom.
  9. Collaborate with contentarea teachers to support ELLs academic success. Knowledge of coteaching and relationshipbuilding skills to support ELL student learning within the classroom.
  10. Promote collaboration and teambuilding. Builds rapport with staff and community.
  11. Assess the accomplishments of the ELL on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  12. Have knowledge of the MTSS process and seek support of appropriate specialists when need arises.
  13. Is able to provide support to ELLs with disabilities.
  14. Meet with and facilitate and document communication with parents while providing opportunities for acculturation and socialization within the American school setting. Assists teachers throughout the building in fostering this communication as well.
  15. May provide technical assistance and generalized support to contentarea teachers in regards to ELLs.
  16. May provide training and assistance to buildings and individual teachers to ensure appropriate identification of ELLs support and service of ELLs and general classroom accommodations for ELLs.
  17. Attend all staff meetings team meetings training and professional development as required.
  18. Maintain appropriate reports and documentation for all ELLs as needed.
  19. Other job duties as assigned

  • Consistent requirements to lift carry push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds
