ACTING DISTRICT VICEPRINCIPAL
EARLY LEARNING and CHILD CARE (ELCC) LEAD
The School District
School District No. 58 (NicolaSimilkameen) serves the two communities of Merritt and Princeton six First Nations Bands the Mtis and the Conayt Friendship Society. The districts mountains lakes and valleys provide a natural setting for a range of fabulous yearround outdoor activities. We offer a warm smalltown atmosphere where relationships are fundamental to our success.
Merritt where the Board Office is located is in the Nicola Valley and is the hub of a highway system that links Kamloops Kelowna and the Lower Mainland. The valleys major industries include ranching forestry health local government and tourism.
Princeton situated in the Similkameen Valley is beautifully located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains on a major highway connecting the Lower Mainland to the Okanagan Valley. Forestry mining tourism agriculture and ranching are mainstays of the local economy.
The Position
Reporting to the Assistant Superintendent the Early Learning and Childcare District VicePrincipal is primarily responsible for supporting early learning initiatives and expanding child care on school grounds within the district. This position is for theschool year.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) programs projects and initiatives
Identify and align district resources to support ELCC
Coordinate existing or new ELCC initiatives alongside early learning staff and/or team
Maintain a focus on highquality early learning and childcare experiences
Engage across the district and liaise with partners and Ministry staff
Identify opportunities for and expand access to ELCC on school grounds
Data Collation using Ed Plan Insights
Coordinating and leading Collaborative Support Meetings
Kindergarten to Grade 3 classroom support
Participation in community partner groups (ie Merritt and Princeton Literacy)
Oversee StrongStart programming
Support/Oversee the AfterSchool Program
Qualifications
A masters degree in Primary Literacy Early Childhood Education or Educational Leadership is preferred.
A valid British Columbia teaching certificate.
Successful leadership and direct primary teaching experience including working with early childhood educators early learning programs as well as direct experience and commitment to working with Indigenous children families and communities
Currency regarding the Early Learning Framework early childhood education/early learning research and best practice
Understanding of childcare licensing would be an asset
Strong positive interpersonal skills.
Drivers License and willingness to travel

The salary range for this position is in accordance with the BCPSEA Regional Salary Model for Principals which is $130540 to $137931 per year.
