About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Aboriginal and Torres Strait IslanderLiaisonOfficer to join our Disability Gateway Partnerships and Engagement team. In this role you will be the catalyst for building genuine and trusted relationships ensuring the Disability Gateway program is culturally relevant accessible and impactful for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

In this position youll also enjoy the chance to travel interstate meeting new people and expanding your horizons.

Duties

  • Engage with external stakeholders with a focus on with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islandercontrolled organisations to build networks and referral pathways to the Disability Gateway service.

  • Build genuine and trusted relationships and partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations community and leaders across Australia.

  • Develop community networks in targeted communities. Coordinate and attend local meetings community consultations advisory groups and events and support community partner events.

  • Organise and conduct information sessions specifically tailored for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients carers families communities and organisations.

  • Facilitate and advocate for engagement initiatives within communities collaborating with organisations and Elders with a focus on regional Australia.

  • Contribute to the design and delivery of community engagement and partnership strategies.

  • Proactively collaborate with the program leadership team to support cultural competency within the team and foster an inclusive and culturally sensitive work environment.

Skills and Experience

To excel in this role you should have the following skills and experience:

  • Existing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations across multiple states and broad catchment areas.

  • Recognition from within the community as a respected culturally safe person.

  • Demonstrated respectful approach to working with community Traditional Owners and Elders.

  • Demonstrated experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partnerships and engagement.

  • Demonstrated track record of development and achievement of successful partnership outcomes.

  • Ability to develop effective new networks and productive relationships with community organisations agencies government and other stakeholders.

  • Strong and effective interpersonal communication negotiation and presentation skills with the capability to motivate and engage stakeholders.

  • Current C class drivers license.

  • As this is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identified Position it is a requirement for you to confirm your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.
