Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

This is role has the potential to shape Pfizers future seasonal vaccines portfolio and significantly contributes

to public health through prevention of seasonal infections such as Covid Flu and RSV

The VP Commercial Development Seasonal Vaccines is leading a team that is responsible for the portfolio planning of Pfizers seasonal vaccines portfolio which includes Pfizers respiratory vaccines pipeline programs as well as lifecycle planning responsibilities for our Covid and RSV vaccines. The VP is the keycommercial collaborator for Vaccines Research & Development (VRD) core strategy teams integrating a commercial perspective across key commercial stakeholders such as Global Marketing US Commercial and the International Chief Commercial Office and working with crossfunctional partners within Business Innovation.

Portfolio planning responsibilities will primarily focus on commercial assessment and investment case development for a range of early / latestage assets life cycle options and technology platforms across all of Pfizers Seasonal Vaccines Portfolio. Another critical aspect of this role will be to develop a long term vision for the overall seasonal vaccines landscape develop a point of view on key emerging opportunities and make recommendations for Pfizers seasonal vaccines future strategies and investments.

This role is reporting into the CSI Lead for Vaccines and will contribute to Pfizers overall vaccines portfolio prioritization (including nonseasonal vaccines) and contributes to the development of a longterm holistic Vaccines Strategy.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate must be a selfstarter who is able to multitask in a fastpaced and dynamic environment lead cross functional teams set vision and support the team through key strategic decisions for Pfizers seasonal vaccines portfolio.

Asset responsibilities include:

  • Clinical stage programs: CovidFlu Combinations Seasonal Flu and Pandemic Flu Vaccines
  • Preclinical programs/product concepts: RSV/HMPV/PIV combination Vaccines
  • Lifecycle programs: Covid RSV and Lyme Vaccines

Leadership responsibilities include:

  • Lead a team of commercial development asset portfolio & pandemic preparedness leads
    • Providing strategic & analytical leadership in the problem solving process
    • Providing work planning guidance balancing commercial priorities with work load considerations
    • Coaching team members in line with individual strengths and development opportunities
  • Build a strong working relationship with Vaccines Research and Development (VRD) Core Strategy Teams as well as Global Medical and ensure crossfunctional alignment
  • Lead the commercial alignment team for all preclinical and clinical seasonal vaccines development programs and build one commercial perspective by integrating insights from all commercial stakeholders including Global Marketing US Commercial International Chief Commercial Office and Global Values and Access (GAV)
  • Integrate other Business Innovation (BI) functions into the decision making process to build an integrated BI perspective including Portfolio and Decision Analytics (PDA) Business Analytics (BA) CSI Commercial Planning and Business Development
  • Foster a strong collaborative partnership culture

Key functional responsibilities include:

  • Lead directreport team to deliver commercial planning for clinical stage assets from FIH to DP3
    • Evaluating and maintaining a comprehensive view of the dynamic competitive landscape at the asset level
    • Leading comprehensive analyses of the market trends that include Vaccine Technical Committee Recommendations Pricing & Access as well as HCP and Consumer Preferences and Attitudes
    • Contributing to the asset strategy at the VRD program level
      • Providing commercial input to development strategies to ensure clinical development plans (CDPs) are aligned with commercial needs
      • Leading the development of the Vaccines Target Product Profile (TPP) in collaboration with VRD and lead CSI contributions to the North Star Process
      • Ensuring alignment between TPP CDP and target label claims
    • Translating insights into asset level forecast scenarios increasing commercial rigor as the asset progresses along development milestones. Obtaining broad commercial input during the forecasting process and ensuring milestone forecast submissions are aligned with other commercial groups
    • Developing DP3 business cases making strategic investment recommendations to the Vacciness Strategy Governance Team (VSGT) and Portfolio Management Team (PMT)
  • Shape the longterm vision for Pfizers Seasonal Vaccines Portfolio
    • Building an understanding of unmet medical need and commercial attractiveness for novel vaccine development programs (in collaboration with Vaccines Strategy lead)
    • Contributing to the development of product concepts at the preclinical stage that outline key asset features for novel development programs and provide a first quantitative perspective on future revenue opportunities (in collaboration with Vaccines Strategy Lead)
    • Enabling asset prioritization in collaboration with VRD integrating commercial perspectives and technical/clinical feasibility
  • Lead the commercial development team to deliver lifecycle planning process for inline assets leading to PMT buyup requests
    • Facilitating the annual lifecycle planning process in collaboration with inline commercial leaders
    • Obtaining inline commercial input to identify development programs that lead to label expansion / improve asset data situation
    • Developing a buyup business case for each lifecycle idea based on inline commercial insights on revenue impact
    • Prioritizing buyup business cases for PMT buyup submission
  • Shape the Pfizer Pandemic Preparedness Activities
    • Provide commercial crossfunctional leadership to the Pandemic Preparedness global activities including the negotiation of potential capacity reservation agreements with governments and Pfizer response in the case of a future potential WHOdeclared pandemic
  • Contribute to the Pfizer Vaccines Strategy
    • Providing seasonal vaccines strategy insights into the strategy development process that is led by the Vaccines Strategy Lead
    • Gaining a perspective on nonseasonal vaccines programs to contribute to the discussion
    • Helping to integrate seasonal and nonseasonal vaccine portfolio priorities into a holistic vaccines strategy in collaboration with the CSI Vaccines Lead NonSeasonal Vaccines Lead and the Vaccines Strategy Lead
  • Contribute to initiatives within the CSI Vaccines Leadership team
    • Providing input into annual planning processes (CSI OP R&D OP) ensuring a Vaccines aligned approach
    • Providing input into or leading initiatives with relevance across CSI Vaccines
  • Manage Operating Expense Budget
    • Developing an operating expense budget during the annual operating plan process to ensure analytical activities are appropriately funded
    • Tracking monthly spending and provide spending forecasts in LE process (in collaboration with Finance)
    • Dynamically adjusting budget allocation inline with asset evolution and changing commercial needs
    • Ensuring full year operating expenses are in line with approved budgets/buyups

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced academic degree such as MS/MBA or PhD
  • 20 years of experience in Pharma commercial development marketing new product launch or strategy in pharmaceutical medical device or biotechnology companies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior Commercial Development experience progressing assets through stagegates (POC DP3 etc) and presenting asset business cases to senior management (highly preferred)
  • Strong understanding of Vaccines/Infectious disease landscape and emerging trends (highly preferred)
  • Experience in leading Marketing and/or Commercial organizations
  • Experience with Global product launches and developing prelaunch positioning and strategies
  • Experience interfacing/collaborating with Research Development Regulatory GAV and other functions
  • Handson experience leading financial valuation forecasting business proposal and/or other related projects required
  • Experience in long term strategic plan development and execution
  • Ability to influence without direct authority
  • Demonstrated leadership of cross functional matrix teams and developing a collaborative culture
  • A high sense of urgency with a focus on driving decisions in the face of incomplete and imperfect information

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $256100.00 to $426800.00. In addition this position is eligible for participation in Pfizers Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 30.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
