Job Description

Description

This position is responsible for assisting the Senior Technical Director and Venue Manager in performing and/or supervising all duties associated with the technical aspects of all productions and events in UNAs performing arts facilities which currently include Norton Auditorium and the George S. Lindsey Theatre (blackbox). This position works in collaboration with the faculty and production staffs of various performing arts groups from the departments of Cinematic Arts and Theatre Entertainment Industry Music and other various touring groups and university events scheduled in the space.

Essential Job Duties

  • Operate maintain and safeguard the technical assets of the theatre including supervising the use of lighting sound communications equipment and the use and maintenance of stage facilities;
  • Determine the necessary technical supports such as lighting sound staging and special needs necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates;
  • Advise production producers directors lighting and sound designers on the technical specifications costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show and supervise the implementations of approved technical designs;
  • Supervise and assist with set and stage construction and management;
  • Assist in recruiting training and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff for individual shows;
  • Orient facility renters and visiting productions to safety technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations;
  • Facilitatetheuseofthetechnicalfacilitiesbyuniversityeventsandothersengaged by or renting the facility;
  • Maintain inventory and order specialized supplies;
  • Operate and monitor the condition of equipment including lighting sound and rigging equipment;
  • Arrange for the repair and replacement of equipment within budgetary constraints;
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment;
  • Attend technical week rehearsals in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of mounting a show;
  • Produce lighting and sound plots when needed;
  • Responsible for scheduling and supervising loadin/loadout of lighting including hang and focus; technical needs for sound;technical needs for video/livestreaming; and scenery;
  • Assist with the scheduling of technical/shop hours and supervision of technical support staff;
  • Stage managing or assigning and supervising student stage managers for all productions mounted in the space;
  • Supervision of student workers and maintain scheduling of student workers;
  • Responsible for all livestream duties including calling camera angles and switching between shots;
  • Coordinate with university departments to ensure all elements of commencement livestream are prepared in a timely manner (i.e. lower thirds updated graphics streaming keys);
  • Responsible for keeping LED advertisement sign uptodate with current events;
  • Responsible for transport and supervising use of Norton Auditorium/Lindsey Black Box equipment if an alternate campus venue such as the Memorial Amphitheater or Stone Lodge utilizes the equipment;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Music Theatre or Entertainment Industry OR a minimum of five years of progressivelyresponsible fulltime work experience in theatre music or entertainment production is required;
  • Verifiable practical experience in three or more of the following areas is required:
    Box office/front house management;
    Stage/entertainment lighting;
    Stage/entertainment sound reinforcement and operation;
    Theatrical rigging/operation of counterweight rigging systems;
    Stage management;
    A/V presentation technology;
    Stage carpentry.

LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
Current valid drivers license is required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work on catwalks grids ladders scaffolding and lifts is mandatory;
  • Ability to schedule and maintain a calendar of events for a multifunctional facility that houses diverse groups such as annual university performance groups/music ensembles administrative requests and rental requests;
  • Flexibility in hours worked including weekends and evenings is required;
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with a diverse array of faculty staff students administrators visitors and the general public;
  • Skills in stage rigging carpentry welding and light/sound technologies including demonstrated competency in Vectorworks or SketchUp software is preferred.
