Description:
To lead promote and facilitate student athletes to achieve maximum potential in the chosen activity/sport by instillingethical values teamwork and a winning attitude. To organize and coordinate practices and meetings by utilizing assistants and all available resources to promote and teach the fundamentals of the activity/sport.
Qualifications:
PASP Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit issued by The Ohio Department of Education which includes:
Fundamentals of Coaching
Concussion Education
Valid CPR Certification
First Aide/Health Safety
- A thorough knowledge of the sport/activity that is being taught
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training Lindseys Law
- Alternative to the above qualifications as superintendent and/or board of education may find appropriate
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- An extensive knowledge and background of the sport that he/she is coaching
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Effective active listening skills
- Organizational and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of child development and an understanding of age appropriate tasks
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Interacts in a positive manner with staff parents and students
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships
Essential Functions:
- Exhibit professional behavior emotional stability and sound judgment
- Responsible for submission of student roster by April 1 or by end of the season to the EMIS secretary. Must include local seal requirements by student.
- Respond appropriately to crisis situations (i.e. emergencies employee/parent concerns)
- Ensure the safety of students
- Set a good moral and ethical example for athletes the student body and community
- Work cooperatively with the Athletic Boosters to better the athletic program
- Follow the athletic policy so there will be consistency in dealing with athletes in a fair and firm manner
- Conduct oneself in an ethical manner during contests and practices
- Set up workouts for athletes
- Notify parents of athlete(s) needing medical attention refer for a physical and keep records of injury
- Responsible for all equipment and inventory in conjunction with the athletic director
- Responsible for handing out collecting cleaning and storage of equipment
- Cooperate with other sports/coaches to develop a total athletic program
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality
- Work cooperatively with the teaching staff administration and parents
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor the weight room during the posted hours
- Assign responsibilities to trainers and managers
- Submit required lists and reports (roster for eligibility and for programs) to the athletic director in a timely manner with all required information
- Completely discuss procedures and responsibilities with everyone in the weight room
- Keep abreast of new techniques and innovations by attending clinics and reading material
- Be involved and attend Athletic Boosters and Athletic Council meetings
- Establish a communications system to athletes and parents from elementary to varsity levels
- Ensure the safety of students
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Exhibit professional behavior emotional stability and sound judgement
- Interacts in a positive manner with staff students and parents
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Maintain appropriate licenses/endorsements and training hours as required
- Adhere to all standards established by the Ohio Department of Education for Licensed Educators
- Refer suspected cases of child abuse immediately to the appropriate child protective services/law enforcement agency as mandated by state law and Board of Education policy
- Follows Board Policy
- Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
Equipment Operated:
- First aid kit
- Motor vehicle
- Sport appropriate equipment such as batting cages golf carts blocking sleds goal posts etc.
- Potential use of technology (computer cell phone etc.)
Additional Working Conditions:
- Occasional exposure to bodily fluids
- After school and weekend work
- Occasional operation of a motor vehicle in inclement weather conditions
- Lift carry push and pull various supplies and materials up to a maximum of 50 pounds
