JOB SUMMARY:
Use hand cabinet and robot to shot peen surface of aircraft components. Prepare aircraft components for surface enhancement and protects aircraft parts from corrosion.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform visual inspection to ensure any fixture or hard masking used is in good working order
- Ensure that the part to be peened is free from any surface contamination (corrosion pitting paint residue etc.). Clean if required using acetone. In cases of gross contamination such as paint or heavy corrosion escalate to engineering to get corrected prior to peening.
- Mask all surfaces not to be peened. Verify if masking is required as overspray is frequently allowed.
- If hard masking exists ensure hard masking is in good working condition upon installation.
- Program the robot to move the nozzle at the required peening angle and initial exposure time or set up for performing the required peening for manual peening.
- Peen the part as required to meet the traveler requirements and then inspect the part to ensure satisfactory completion of the peening process in accordance with the requirements.
- Remove masking from the part. If tape was used ensure that no tape residue is present.
- For each job produce the required certificate of completion and place in the job packet.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a high school diploma or an equivalent certificate.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an airport security badge through the local airport authority if applicable.
- 06 months Aviation or previous shot peen/surface enhancement experience is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to lift heavy objects
