As the Animal Care Technician you will work in collaboration with a strong team of 75 staff and 355 volunteers to rescue rehabilitate and find loving homes for thousands of animals every year.

Founded in 1908 and located in Silverdale Washington Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) serves Kitsap County and beyond as more than a shelter. We are committed to upholding an open admissions policy for stray pets while maintaining an extensive adoption program a low euthanasia rate and excellence in our services.
What is the opportunity
The Animal Care team has the primary responsibility of caring for all of the animals in the shelter. These may be stray animals brought in by good Samaritans or animals surrendered by owners who can no longer care for them. This important position is the foundation of animal rescue.
The Animal Care Technicians primary responsibilities are:
Clean animal kennels.
Feed animals
Move animals from one location to another within the shelter.
Assist with dog walking and playgroups
Assist with vaccinations.
Wash shelter animals dishes and laundry.
Fill in when needed in our Admissions department
Requirements
Qualities of the Ideal Candidate
This position works very closely with other members of the Animal Care team as well as the Behavior and Admissions Department Customer Service and Veterinary Services. This job is physically demanding and requires a great sense of urgency and a fantastic work ethic. The job requires flexibility energy and the ability to think quickly on ones feet. A sense of humor is a huge plus! Professional animal handling experience would be great but is not required. The ideal team member will have good customer service skills and basic computer knowledge. A love of animals is necessary along with feeling comfortable handling all sizes and breeds of dogs and cats livestock small animals and reptiles. You must be willing to learn to vaccinate and deworm animals. The ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time is key as is being a strong team player having an eye for accuracy and outstanding attention to detail. The animals dont take holidays or weekends so you must be available to work weekends and rotating holidays. A high school diploma / GED are required. You must be 18 years old to be considered.
