Job Description

Northeast Wales Sports Project Sports Development Officer


We are recruiting a Sports Development Officer as part of our new Northeast Wales Sports Project. We are looking to recruit compassionate and enthusiastic individual to join our team to continue to make real impact in the lives of young people.


Project Overview


The EYST Northeast Wales Sports Project is a 2year project aimed at increasing Sports Participation for underrepresented ethnic minority groups.

The project hopes to identify enable and increase pathways to Sports participation future employment pathways and individual development/training for underrepresented groups in North Wales. The project will actively connect people with Sport and will engage wider with local partners and national governing bodies to achieve longterm and sustainable connections to sport in North Wales.

The project hopes to overcome barriers/challenges to Sports Participation for:

Ethnic minority children and young people (aged 425yrs)

Girls and young women (aged 1025yrs)

Children and young people living in poverty whether urban or rural poverty

Disabled children and young people or those with an impairment

Job Title :Sports Development Officer

Hours of Work 14 hours per week (PT) Incl. some evenings & weekends

Salary : 9172.8per annum (22932 pro rata)

Tenure :Fixed Term until 31st May 2026

Responsible for: Young people & Children aged 425

Responsible to EYST Strategic Youth Lead

Location of Work

Northeast Wales (including Wrexham Flintshire and Denbighshire) role will be based in Wrexham.

Enhanced DBS will be required for this role

Evidence for permission to work will be required

Aims of the Post


1. Actively connect people with Sport and will engage wider with local partners and national governing bodies to achieve longterm and sustainable connections to sport in North Wales.

2. Directly increase opportunities and connections for a North Wales where everyone has access to diverse opportunities and ability to be active every day


3. Overcome barriers/challenges to Sports Participation for underrepresented groups


Principal Accountabilities and Main Duties


1. To work directly with local partners and national governing bodies to increase opportunities for underrepresented groups.

2. Seek out new and exciting opportunities for clients.

3. To support the involvement of young people in all project activities ensuring their safety wellbeing enjoyment and dignity.

4. Actively promote and encourage participation through a variety of engagement methods


5. Support delivery of session with partners and wider Sports Team.

General Duties

1. To ensure regular reporting and updates to partners and within EYST as required.

2. To ensure the collection entry and return of information as required for monitoring and evaluation input onto EYST CRM system (Charitylog).

3. To take part in training courses staff meetings and regular supervision.

4. To work within relevant health and safety legislation.

5. To ensure that the project promotes and reflects equality of opportunity at all levels.


6. To ensure that EYST Safeguarding Data Protection Health and Safety and all other relevant policies are implemented.

7. To uphold the confidentiality of information of service users.

8. To carry out any other duties that may from time to time be required.

Person Specification

Essential

1. A minimum of one years experience working with BME Young people.

2. Passionate for Sport and participation across all skill levels


3. Willingness to develop through introductory and continuous youth work training and qualifications with an essential commitment to work towards EWC registration as a Youth Support Worker at level 3.

4. Experience of working with BME communities and community development.

5. Ability to organise face to face sessions and activities.

6. Be able to travel across Northeast Wales

7. Experience of working in partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations and knowledge of local provision.

8. Knowledge understanding and empathy for issues affecting young people from ethnic minorities including Refugee and Asylum seeker backgrounds.

9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (working with young people and professionals).

10. Ability to working under pressure in challenging and changeable environments.

11. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and take initiative.

12. Ability to comply with Health & Safety procedures in different environments.

13. Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding including Digital Safeguarding issues.

14. Understanding and knowledge of Confidentiality (GDPR).


15. Organised and selfmotivated.

16. Excellent IT skills confident using online engagement platforms including Zoom and Teams.

17. Demonstrable commitment to EYSTs organisational values of Equality Human Rights Social Justice and Making a Positive Difference.
