Job Description

  • Employment Type: Part Time Fixed Term to December 2027 (28hour week)
  • Remuneration Level 9: $143007 $% Superannuation Pro Rata.
  • Location: Kensington NSW (oncampus attendance required with some flexibility negotiable for the right candidate)

Why This Role Matters:

The Culturally Nourishing Schooling (CNS) project is practice and research informed program aimed to better engage and support the education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The collaborative project between several Australian universities local communities and schools works to establish a culturally focused and strengthsbased program that supports wholeofschool change and fosters longterm relationships between schools and their local communities.

CNS is currently transitioning from Phase One () to Phase Two () of the project. This involves an interstate expansion and collaborative engagement with researchers and communities in South Australia and Victoria along with New South Wales. The project is directly supported by a range of stakeholders including government philanthropic Aboriginal education consultative groups and university sponsors. The National Communications Manager will be responsible for the strategy planning development and implementation of the communications for CNS at a national level and maintaining the internal and external communications across the NSW SA and VIC project teams. The role will also provide strategic communications advice to the National Chief Investigator and work closely with the National Research Manager and National Policy Manager to translate research findings into communications for diverse audiences.


Accountabilities:

  • Strategize plan develop and deliver internal and external communications for the CNS project.
  • Lead media outreach and research write and edit articles and media releases about CNS.
  • Work collaboratively with researchers and project team to create content from CNS research for use across various channels (e.g. media releases website stories and content social media e newsletters annual reports and events).
  • Provide assistance with the design formatting and presentation and other relevant written materials as required such as stakeholder reports fundraising materials presentation PowerPoints and promotional brochures.
  • Provide support as required for key research events and the annual CNS Symposium.
  • Work both independently and as part of the national and interstate project teams.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including Chief Investigators professional and research staff and school contacts.
  • Manage the CNS website and work with state and national CNS staff to ensure that the website is uptodate and relevant to meet the needs of users.
  • Maintain records consistent with ethical legal and professional requirements to progress research activities and organisational reporting obligations.

Skills and Experience:

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification with proven experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education training and experience.
  • Proven experience in distilling complex information into simple messages for communication to a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly adaptable and consultative manner working in a collaborative way to deliver the best outcomes.
  • Excellent time and workload management skills with a proven ability to respond to changing priorities manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines and achieve required outcomes with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven capability of producing content for diverse audiences. This will include supporting the development and maintenance of the project website and social media sites with quality materials.
  • Proven ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
  • An understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander values perspectives connections and knowledges that will contribute to content creation and communications strategies.
  • Proven success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
