A DAY IN THE LIFE
Our Principal Biologist position is located in Oakland California.
As a key member of the team this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
- Leading interesting environmental compliance projects.
- Working closely with clients and team environmental scientists and planners to solve problems and advance projects.
- Overseeing proposals and business development activities.
- Mentoring and guiding staff.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations including attendance at all required safety training programs
- Participate in the companys continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts
- Keep uptodate and current on industry trends by completing formal training reviewing professional publications and attend professional workshops
- Perform other duties as assigned
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS
To perform this job successfully individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.
- A strong educational background in a relevant environmental science.
- Minimum 15 years of professional consulting experience or combination of consulting and other relevant professional environmental experience.
- Experience managing the CEQA process for complex projects.
- Experience conducting resource and impact evaluations.
- A strong familiarity with California natural resources.
- Experience leading the regulatory permitting process including experience working with the USACE USFWS NMFS CDFW and RWQCB.
- Proven experience leading successful proposals including competitive pursuits.
- Excellent written communication skills ability to write and oversee complex technical documents memorandum or reports.
- Experience leading staff teams and working in collaborative team situations that require flexibility in assuming new roles and changing project directions.
- Ability to operate independently take initiative when necessary and assume responsibility for work products and actions.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of computer aided software (Microsoft Suite Google Suite AutoCAD ArcGIS etc.).
- Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions to present to supervisors.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- This position can be physically demanding and will require work in various working environments/conditions which requires that an individual be physically capable of canvassing large project areas by foot on various terrain and potentially in inclement weather.
- Work environment will vary greatly depending on nature of assigned tasks.
- The position may involve local travel as needed.
