Job Description
The Department of Psychologys Applied Forensic Psychology (AFP) Program at St. Francis Xavier (StFX) University invites applications for one (1) probationary 12month limited term appointment (LTA) to begin July 1 2025 with the possibility of extension into a second consecutive LTA appointment. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.
The AFP Program is a direct entry fouryear undergraduate program offered within the Psychology Department at StFX. The successful candidate for this LTA position will have (or be nearing completion of) a PhD in Clinical Forensic or Applied Forensic Psychology. Candidates for this position will be expected to teach courses at the intersection of forensic and clinical psychology focused on Introduction to Forensic Psychology (Psyc 110) Correctional Psychology (Psyc 381) and Psychology and Law (Psyc 382) as well as Professional Skills and Practicum Training (Psyc 257 Psyc 357). Professional Skills and Practicum Training courses are designed to prepare students for practicum placements. Preparation includes skills training for working with vulnerable populations (e.g. mental health and justiceinvolved). Current practicum opportunities for AFP students include working with federal and provincial corrections courts police communitybased organizations (e.g. Elizabeth Fry Society) and mental health practitioners (clinical and counselling psychologists social workers). Availability to teach courses inperson is required.
About the Psychology Department
The StFX Psychology Department is the largest department in the Faculty of Arts and among the largest within the university. The Department has 15 fulltime faculty members with diverse programs of research and funding support and four lab instructors. Our courses attract students from all disciplines across campus and we offer degrees in both the Arts and Sciences. We offer an Honours program coursebased research experiences as well as service learning and workintegrated learning opportunities.
