TITLE: Substitute Adjustment Counselor Longterm (30 to 90 Classroom Days in the same assignment)TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT: August 25 2025 October 24 2025 (approx)SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Student Services and Special Education and/or the Building Principal the Adjustment Counselor is responsible for providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for managing the placement of assigned students; providing information and recommendations to parents and students; assisting to develop goals or plans for achievement; and maintaining accurate records and confidentiality. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Coordinates with teachers administrators resource specialists and/or community (e.g. service clubs courts child protective services etc.) for the purpose of providing/receiving requested information and/or making students parents and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success academically socially and emotionally in a variety of programs and classes (group and teamwork leadership bullying coping with divorce/death social skills) for the purpose of providing information to assist students in a successful transition from elementary to middle school or help with life and academic student progress for the purpose of identifying issues and taking appropriate guidance and counseling services in individual and group settings; assists students to develop positive and realistic selfconcepts through social skills groups and other parents toward resources available to them both within and outside the school system and serves as a resource person to parents and staff on the growth and development of with and notifies outside agencies (e.g. DCF DHM etc.) regarding child students individually or in groups and provides activities regarding peer and parent relationships personal problem solving communication skills and appropriate social supportive counseling for students at high risk of developing adjustment problems e.g. families in crisis families undergoing separation or divorce and single parent with classroom teachers to facilitate student social/emotional growth through activities in the classroom which foster an understanding of self and others development of friendships interpersonal relationships and decisionmaking and coordinates services provided by community resources which can assist and support students and their orientations for new QUALIFICATIONS:Education and ExperienceBachelors Degree in Counseling or a related field from an accredited college/university is required. Valid licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is preferred. Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of laws regulations and policies governing education in public schools; curriculum and instructional programs and best practices in content areas assessment and data competencies include strong managerial and organizational leadership; excellent communication; analysis of data; strong interpersonal conflict resolution problemsolving planning and organizational skills. Abilitybased competencies include reading communicating interpreting and assisting with the enforcement of appropriate state and federal statutes and school policies and procedures; working effectively with administration colleagues staff students parents and the community. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:While performing the duties of this job employee is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods; move/traverse short and long distances operate computer equipment/software.
