The Parkland School Division has a Permanent Fulltime position for a Speech Language Pathologist (1.0 FTE). Your position will be centralized out of Connections for Learning in Stony Plain Alberta however this position will require travel to various school sites within the Division to provide supports to students. This posting will remain open until a qualified applicant has been hired if interested please apply ASAP.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Studentspecific assessment diagnosis and recommendations for programming
  • Parent and staff education to support students who have complex communication needs
  • Classroombased programming and supports
  • Assistive technology and/or speech generating devices
  • Collaboration with community programs
  • Maintaining an inventory of materials assessments and supplies
  • Maintaining appropriate confidential records and provide timely reports

Knowledge Skills Attitudes and Experience

  • Related experience preferably with schoolaged children with complex communication needs
  • Additional training/learning in the areas of emergent literacy emergent numeracy and using alternative and augmentative communication methods
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current evidencebased practices in the area of speechlanguage pathology
  • Have a track record of being a team player and community minded
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility patience sensitivity tolerance enthusiasm creativity and imagination
  • Good physical health
  • The ability to deal with the emotional and mental stress of working with students with complex needs in a school setting
  • Strong computer skills
  • Be committed to your own learning
  • Have excellent time management skills flexibility and ability to work independently and problem solve
  • Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in SpeechLanguage Pathology from an accredited school of speech language pathology
  • ACSLPA certification
  • Valid drivers license

Physical Demands

The Speech Language Pathologist may be required to routinely lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Sometimes heavier lifting may be required to help children move into and out of wheelchairs. Speech Language Pathologists may also use mechanical lifts for students.

Ability to work with students in a variety of positions (i.e. sit on Chair or floor kneel stand bend or reach to assist.

Ability to walk easily maneuver stairs and move from one position or place to another with sufficient ease to respond to student need in a timely manner.

Ability to assist with student transfer (i.e. floorchair standing sit standing transfers as needed per weight of student.

Working Conditions
Speech Language Pathologistswork indoors except when supervising children outdoors or going on field trips.

Speech Language Pathologists may have the same holiday schedule as therapists including a long summer break as well as winter and spring breaks. However they work on a tenmonth contract basis and therefore are not paid during the summer months.

The scheduled hours to be worked will be determined by each specific position.

This position may require the use of a personal vehicle as per job posting.

Additional Information

Speech LanguagePathologists must agree to respect the confidentiality and personal integrity of students parents therapists and other staff.

This position requires an original copy of a current clean criminal record check with vulnerable sector and an original copy of a child intervention record check.

This position is covered by the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 5543

Hours of Work: 35 hours/week (Monday to Friday)
Salary: $65.50$70.62/hr (Pay Group 9)
