Job Description

The School District of Clayton is seeking a talented Librarian for theschool year at Glenridge Elementary School. Librarians provide leadership instruction and consulting assistance to students and teachers in the effective use of library and media materials through a systematically developed collection of resources within the school and through access to resources outside the school.

The successful candidate:

  • Plans and delivers engaging library and literacy lessons to students in grades K5 fostering a love of reading research skills and digital citizenship.
  • Collaborates with building faculty and district staff to develop engaging lessons and learning for all students.
  • Empowers learners to seek knowledge create new knowledge and make realworld connections for lifelong learning.
  • Initiates opportunities that allow learners to demonstrate interests in other perspectives and provides opportunities for tinkering and making.
  • Plans and implements the library/media program as outlined in the Districts curriculum documents by previewing evaluating and recommending library instructional materials.
  • Responsible for the physical layout of the library and the coordination of the cataloging of the collection so that all materials and equipment will be utilized to the fullest extent.
  • Collaborates with District coordinators principals teachers and research committees in the use of library materials and equipment within the library and/or in the classroom.
  • Works with students and faculty in identifying locating interpreting and using information gathered from sources for reports assessments research projects and other applications.
  • Encourages independent study and leisure reading among students and offers reading guidance to those with intellectual interests.
  • Utilizes technology tools such as the Smartboard or Cleartouch panel and manages the librarys digital checkout system to support an efficient and engaging library environment.
  • Shares involvement with the building and District administration in the preparation of the budget; preparation of purchase orders and follows District procedures regarding the receipt and closure of purchase orders.
  • Attends workshops conferences and conventions at the local and national level.
  • Develops and implements inservice programs for faculty members on the use of library center materials equipment and services.
  • Assumes responsibility for the effective functioning of the school including necessary noninstructional assignments and student management throughout the entire building.
  • Employs a growth mindset developed through experience and reflection and demonstrates that mindset in the library experiences for students.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to inclusiveness and respect for diversity in the reading and learning community.
  • Exhibits communicates and teaches safe legal and ethical use and creation of content with students and staff.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or assigned by the Building Principal.

Education: Bachelor Degree required. Masters Degree preferred.

Certification: Missouri Library Certification required.
Experience: One to three years librarian experience preferred.
