Job Description

We are currently looking for an experienced and forwardthinking Legal Manager to temporarily join our team during a period of longterm illness within our legal department.

Job summary:

As a Legal and Claims Manager you will be responsible for reviewing and drafting sales and other commercial contracts providing legal advice on potential risks and ensuring all legal agreements are both commercially viable and legally sound. You will communicate contract clauses in a clear and pragmatic manner to both Samskip colleagues and external parties always striving to find the best solution for Samskip.

Your role will also involve handling cargo claims as well as claims related to vessel damages or other losses. It is crucial to ensure that these claims are managed efficiently professionally and in the best interests of Samskip.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review draft and provide legal advice on commercial contracts with customers suppliers and business partners.
  • Handle assess and resolve claims related to cargo vessels or other damage ensuring swift and professional management.
  • Recover claims from subcontractors and advise on legal aspects of claim recovery.
  • Provide legal guidance on complex claims litigation contracts and other legal matters to colleagues.
  • Ensure accurate followup on claims including consultations with international insurance companies.
  • Collaborate with departments such as sales finance compliance and more to ensure legal matters are managed efficiently.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a legal management role within a complex and fastmoving business environment.
  • Strong technical legal expertise with the ability to understand and address the business impact of legal risks.
  • Experience in managing legal teams and providing strategic legal advice to senior management.
  • A commerciallyminded approach to legal issues ensuring business objectives are achieved while mitigating legal risks.
  • The ability to build relationships across departments and effectively communicate legal concepts to nonlegal stakeholders.
  • Occasional travel within Europe may be required.

Qualifications and personal attributes:

  • Law Degree (JD or LL.M.) from an accredited institution.
  • At least 1 year of experience in legal and claims management ideally within the (maritime) transport sector.
  • Expertise in contract law including experience drafting complex commercial contracts.
  • Familiarity with transport legislation such as CMR and the HagueVisby Rules.
  • Experience in corporate housekeeping including involvement in company acquisitions.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in German or Spanish is a plus.
  • Strong organizational problemsolving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to constantly changing priorities.
  • Practical solutionoriented approach to legal issues with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to nonlegal colleagues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of empathy.
  • Proven ability to prioritize manage projects and meet deadlines.
