Job Summary
The Senior Vice President for Health Sciences Research Unit ( SVPHS Research Unit) at University of Utah Health seeks a Senior Manager (Research Development Associate III ) to organize and oversee all administrative aspects of the Data Exploration and Learning for Precision Health Intelligence ( DELPHI ) Data Science Initiative . The goal of the DELPHI Initiative is to catalyze interdisciplinary datascience driven research to drive innovation in health and medicine. The Senior Manager will play a pivotal role in the strategic planning and execution of the DELPHI Initiative. This includes developing and implementing a wide range of strategic proactive and capacity building activities designed to enable and enhance data science research that includes strategic research advancement communication of research and research opportunities enhancement of collaboration and team science proposal development and nurturing alliances between and among faculty at the U of U and funding agencies. A key function of this position is to work with stakeholders to develop program proposals budgets (including a schedule for obtaining external support) goals and implementation plans for review by health sciences center leadership. The individual in this position will be expected to operate independently to achieve program outcomes. In addition this individual will contribute to emerging and ongoing SVPHS Research Unit initiatives and administrative responsibilities. The Senior Manager will be a part of the Research Program Development Team in the SVPHS Research Unit which oversees the development and implementation of key research strategic initiatives including the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Center the Immunology Inflammation and Infectious Diseases Initiative the Center for Genomic Medicine the Digital Health Initiative and the Center for Medical Cannabis Research. The Senior Manager will report to the Director of Research Program Development and will work alongside the DELPHI CoDirectors and Steering Committee to lead the initiative. Manage DELPHI budget. Identify research priority areas by collaborating with Faculty and/or Principal Investigators and other key personnel for strategic research. Coordinate resources and tools to promote collaboration. Serve as institutional representative to the university community and external visitors and may provide information and analysis to support formal partnerships with external entities. Support Office of Advancement colleagues in their efforts to fundraise for DELPHI . Identify federal foundation and corporation funding opportunities based on DELPHI interests. Identify complementary research interests among faculty and assemble competitive teams to respond to funding opportunities. Participate in and manage the preparation of complex research proposals including participation in proposal writing alignment of PIs and key personnel resource and budget recommendations and timeline development. Serve as a liaison with sponsors department offices and partnering institutions. With the assistance of support staff ensure that applications comply with sponsor and University requirements. Provide strategic advice on making proposals competitive by editing and reviewing proposal drafts and writing nontechnical proposal components. Provide proposal and award informationrelated metrics. Disseminate grant opportunities and proposal development tools. Oversee the execution of a seed grant program to catalyze research. Support educational initiatives within DELPHI including workshops trainings and developing new curriculum with domain experts. Organize internal research community building events (e.g. symposia seminar series networking events) and provide major oversight of DELPHIs communications and marketing platforms. Identify opportunities for collaboration with other academic centers health systems and industry. Provide project management support for building formal partnerships. Support the Universitys government relations and communications teams in conveying the vision accomplishments and needs of the DELPHI and its initiatives. Oversee and support the strategic planning of the DELPHI Data Curation Core. Support recruitment of faculty within the biomedical data science space. Coordinate with the administration of the Responsible AI Initiative to identify opportunities for collaboration. As requested by the SVPHS Research Unit participate in broader institutional initiatives proposal and award applications staff mentoring and other administrative assignments. Hire train and mentor staff as needed. Minimum Qualifications
Masters Degree or Bachelors degree four years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
