Title:Prevention Educator

Salary:$24.09 per hour

Supervisor:Director of Ulster Prevention Council

Status:FullTime Exempt 35 hours per week

Schedule: Monday Friday 9am5pm Occasional Evening and Weekend hours are required based on program needs

Overview: Ulster Prevention Council (UPC) is a Family Services Inc. program housed in Kingston NY. Our mission is to reduce and prevent substance use and substance use disorder (SUD) among youth and families in Ulster County by providing support services to ensure that strategies address local needs and preferences employing programs that have been proven to work with successful outcomes. We work with health and human services agencies school districts government law enforcement probation youth organizations and community members to reduce and prevent alcohol and substance misuse.

The Prevention Educator is responsible for planning implementing and coordinating prevention education in school and community settings while enthusiastically supporting practicing and communicating the agencys mission and statement of values.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum two years of experience in teaching facilitation and/or public speaking.
  • Minimum two years experience working with youth.
  • Knowledge of (or ability to learn about) substanceuse disorder and substanceuse prevention.
  • Ability to engage youth using a strengthbased and culturally competent perspective and approach.
  • Strong planning and written verbal and organizational skills including the ability to work with students staff faculty and community members.
  • Quickly adaptable to changing ideas responsibilities expectations and scheduling as related to program needs.
  • Use and familiarity with technology and multiple forms of media and comfort using PCs and Microsoft Office software.

Preferred

  • Bachelors degree in Education Teaching Social Work Sociology Psychology or related Human Services field.
  • Understanding of and experience working with an evidencebased curriculum
  • One year of experience in substanceuse prevention.
  • Program monitoring and evaluation.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with social media and content creation.

Essential Requirements:

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as the program demands.
  • Reliable transportation and phone (travel and phone expenses are reimbursed).
  • Travel throughout Ulster County as needed as well as mandatory training(s) inside/outside New York State.
  • Ability to receive and convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately audibly and quickly on the telephone and in person.
  • Prepare and/or review documents and communications on computer paper and in files.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as cooperatively in collaboration with others to increase productivity share ideas develop unique solutions and foster a healthy relationship with a team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct delivery of evidencebased prevention curricula to groups of youth in K12 classrooms afterschool programs and in community settings throughout Ulster County.
  • Seek and incorporate methods of instruction that enhance and enrich the learning experience. Explore and implement media resources and strategies that actively involve participants in lessons.
  • Prepare and deliver materials and supplies for each program session.
  • Advocate for implementation of evidencebased practices in school after school and in community settings.
  • Network with Ulster County multidisciplinary services and youth service providers to build working partnerships.
  • Coordinate with the Director and Coordinator for the scheduling of services delivered in multiple locations throughout the county.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of programs and projects (including completed participant pre/posttest evaluations and entering service delivery data online daily as required by New York State OASAS).
  • Implement ongoing evaluation of program effectiveness by assessing analyzing and inputting classroom and program data.
  • Assist Director Coordinator and other team members in preparing quarterly biannual and annual prevention/education outcomes and progress reports as needed.
  • Attend/participate in individual and group supervision as designated by the Director.
  • Actively participate in weekly team meetings other agency and community meetings including those on a State and County level and other meetings as requested by the Director.
  • Complete any training activities approved by the Director.
  • Participate in continuing education and maintain expertise on current research and developments in the field of intersectionality prevention models underserved populations and other pertinent topics.
  • Serve on agency committees and where appropriate and directed contribute to the overall work of Ulster Prevention Council
  • Represent all programs at school events community health fairs and other events.
  • Participate in conferences and professional development in the Health Education and substance use prevention field.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
