Job purpose
Under the direction of the Manager of Social Planning and Research the Communications and Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the GAP Committee activities providing administrative support and promoting their events developing and maintaining a communityoriented website for homelessness in Durham Region and providing support to agency wide communications work.
The Communications and Engagement Coordinator will Chair the Hope in our Community: Homelessness in Durham Website Advisory Committee and ensure that the website contains information and features deemed necessary by key partners and stakeholders. In addition the Communications and Engagement Coordinator will stay uptodate on developments in the homelessness serving sector by participating on sector tables established by the Region of Durham and other provincewide networks.
The role will work in collaboration with CDCDs Community Development and other department to inform plan and contribute to a communications strategy within the agency.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Use a clientcentered antioppression antiracism traumainformed gender equity and strengthbased approaches to coordinate and administratively support the GAP Committee (organizing meetings booking space creating agendas and taking minutes).
- Organizes special events (booking space ordering food sending out invitations) that help the GAP Committee achieve their goals of stigma reduction and zero homelessness in the Durham Region.
- Organize and Chair Hope in our Community: Homelessness in Durham website advisory group meetings and implement their recommendations for the website. Organize an official launch of the website in the Durham Region
- Provide support guidance information and referral to appropriate services to inquiries made via the Hope in our Community website. Collect and display accurate resource information on housing advocacy for clients and other stakeholders.
- Collect information on and participate in team agency and partner communication on systemic housing issues.
- Ensure the Hope in Our Community website is maintained with uptodate information and fully functioning links to the Region and other Housing service providers websites.
- Serves as an informational resource and advocate for individuals and families operating with a high level of integrity confidentiality and trust for those experiencing homelessness and at risk of homelessness in the Durham Region.
- Identify and attend events to increase CDCDs community outreach and public education about housing homelessness prevention and best practices for engaging people with lived experience.
- In partnership with CDCDs Housing Department GAP and the Ajax Homelessness Taskforce create and facilitate group sessions and presentations on housingrelated topics relevant to community stakeholders housing providers and residents.
- Engage in activities to reach isolated households/individuals and atrisk families.
- Maintain relationships with the website Advisory members and establish new relationships with all Durhambased Housing service providers to gain their input into the website and determine whats most relevant for their work and advocacy efforts.
- Provide monthly analytics on the Hope in our Community website
- Prepare and respond to funder and agency requests for information or reports.
- In partnership with the Communications Social Media and AGM Committees plan and implement a communications strategy for CDCDs housing newcomer services and community development departments.
- Participate in the Region of Durhams Homelessness Sector Tables.
- Completes other teamrelated administrative tasks as required.
- Seeks partnership opportunities with relevant community stakeholders.
- Works as a member of the Community Development Department supporting initiatives and projects as needed.
- Helps to build and develop CDCD Community Development and Research program through outreach and participation in communitybased initiatives.
- Participates in promoting a positive workplace culture through agency committee membership and activities.
- Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- A postsecondary degree in the social sciences education or communications with an emphasis on community development
- Advanced knowledge of Durham Regions housing and homelessserving sector
- Proven experience working with marginalized population
- Demonstrated understanding of the community development and social planning process
- Knowledge of the Durham Region and its municipalities as well as other GTA communities
- Experience in project management is a definite asset
- Strong expertise of Word Press social media and Canva
- Experience utilizing social media platforms to promote professional campaigns and information to the community
- Excellent interpersonal written oral communication and facilitation skills
- Selfmotivated and has a demonstrated ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills
- Eagerness to learn with a positive attitude
Additional Requirements
- The Communications and Engagement Coordinator will need to be flexible in the case of attending evening or weekend meetings and events as required.
- A valid Ontario drivers license (Class G) use of a vehicle and insurance with the ability to work in a variety of settings is an asset.
- Successful candidates must provide an acceptable vulnerable criminal record search and certificate demonstrating proof of full vaccination against COVID19.
