DescriptionThis position is primarily for educational or religious purposes and should be used for providing valuable educational experiences for the Intern. It is to give the Intern an opportunity to see how principles and practices learned in their educational institutions are applied in actual work setting. Under general supervision the Intern performs work as assigned by the department.
Responsibilities Help pursue the development of content and records related to the region
Process and catalog all incoming texts related to the ME/AN collection
Inventory book collection and prioritize shelving
Coordinate with library cataloguing and scanning teams
Conduct genealogical research in Arabic
Work closely with homeland team members to collaborate on a variety of assignments
Other assignments related to the region as required
Qualifications Bachelors Degree (awarded or nearing completion) in Middle East Studies Arabic Language History or related field
Arabic language proficiency
o Advanced reading and writing level of Modern Standard Arabic
o Adequate level of Classical Arabic
Knowledge of Arab tribes and family structure
Experience and familiarity with various cultures and peoples of the Middle East and North Africa
Proficiency with word processing spreadsheet and database applications.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written
Strong organizational skills
Selfmotivated
Can work in person in Salt Lake City Utah
Ability to lift up to 50lbs push/pull heavy Library carts bend/squat
