Job Summary: | Nature of Work: - The University of Colorado College of Nursing is seeking a Medical Assistant (Open Rank) for a fulltime (1.0 FTE) benefitseligible position at Sheridan Health Services (SHS) a Federally Qualified Health Center located in southwest Denver CO (zip code: 80236). This position will support the Primary Care service line within the clinic but may be crosstrained to work across other areas as well (pediatrics obstetrics and behavioral health).
Clinic Description: - Sheridan Health Services is a multisite nursemanaged federally qualified community health center funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Bureau of Primary Healthcare and is a collaborative effort between the College of Nursing and the Sheridan School District. There are two convenient locations to serve community health needs primarily for residents of Arapahoe Denver Douglas and Jefferson counties. A Youth Health Clinic is located in the Sheridan School District Administration building. The Family Health Clinic at Sheridan Campus is located in southwest Denver on the Fort Logan campus and provides services to adults and children 65% of whom identify as Latinx and 42% of whom are best served in another language with Spanish being the predominant second language.
- Services offered include primary care across the lifespan; prenatal and postpartum gynecology dentistry pharmacy behavioral health and outpatient substance use treatment. Sheridan Health Services is a PatientCentered Medical Home (PCMH) and as such we uphold a model of care that places the patient at the center incorporating the values and beliefs of the patient in all decisionmaking. We extend the reach of the clinic through public health outreach where nursing students provide community outreach and health education.
Please visit our website for more information: Examples of Duties Performed (Direct Patient Care 80% / Administrative Functions 20%): - The position works primarily with Adult populations but may be required to work with pediatrics obstetrics or refugee patient populations at given times as staffing warrants.
- Upholds strict compliance with University and professional policies/procedures.
- Follows CDC guidelines for reporting illness and temperature wearing masks and washing hands and more during flu seasons and pandemics.
- Works 9 am6 pm on Wednesdays other days 7:50 am5 pm.
- Staggering when needed during lunchtime.
- Greets patients and families and completes standard patient checkin procedures in person and using telehealth tools.
- Measures and documents vital signs; notifies provider of abnormal values.
- Completes medication reconciliation in Epic.
- Records patient interview history and chief complaint in Epic.
- Prepares patients for examinations and procedures as needed and assists providers with procedures as needed.
- Performs phlebotomy following lab procedure for the proper collection and handling of other lab specimens.
- Performs basic wound care and first aid within scope.
- Provides patient education concerning office policies lab results medications diagnoses treatment plan of care and followup phone calls.
- Prepares administers and electronically documents medications within scope (i.e. DepoProvera) with provider authorization.
- Administers immunizations maintains immunization records and completes annual immunization training within the timeline set by the supervisor.
- Answers phone electronically faxes and uploads records outside reports.
- Assist the MA team with inventorytaking stocking and sterilizing instruments.
- Maintains CPR certification and uses CPR skills when required.
- Maintains and disposes of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.
- Practices OSHA safety standards.
- Performs accurate legal and ethical documentation (electronic/hardcopy) at all times.
- Communicates with community partners as needed including public health agencies specialty/outside provider offices local hospitals and freestanding healthcare facilities processes xray orders.
- Performs additional miscellaneous job duties as assigned.
At the Medical Assistant I level - duties are limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other positions in a training and development capacity.At the Medical Assistant I level the focus is on developing medical assistant skills through basic functions of the position as outlined above with the intent to promote after approximately 1 year of experience and completion of specific training and performance evaluations/coaching.
At the Medical Assistant II level - duties are similar to those performed at level I but the complexity of the job is different. In addition to the examples of work performed at all levels positions at the Medical Assistant II level:
- Process xray orders.
- Process prior authorization requests.
- Train and onboard newly hired MAs.
- Perform clinical equipment quality checks routinely following manufacturing recommendations and compliance standards.

Qualifications: | Minimum Qualifications: Medical Assistant I: - Completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
Medical Assistant II: - Completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
- One year of experience working as a medical assistant.
Substitutions: Medical Assistant: - One year of medical assistant experience may substitute for completion of an accredited program and is in addition to any required years of experience.
Nursing Aide / Licensed Practical Nurse / Emergency Medical Technician: - Completion of an accredited program Colorado state licensure and years of experience in any of these fields may substitute for medical assistantspecific requirements.
Current Registered Nursing Student: - Colorado State Certified Nurse Aid licensure may substitute for completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
- Completion of Medical/Surgical Nursing I course with a passing grade may substitute for completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
Registered Nurse / Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) / Doctor of Medicine (MD): - Completion of an accredited program in any of these fields (or similar) may substitute for completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Conditions of Employment: - Must be willing and able to obtain current BLS/CPR certification by date of hire.
- Must be willing and able to remain credentialed and ensure credentialing materials stay current.
- Must be willing and able to work until 6 pm on designated extended hours shifts as needed.
- Must be willing and able to work in a normal patient care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases.
Preferred Qualifications Medical Assistant I: - Experience with or formal training in handling bloodborne pathogens.
- Experience with or formal training in complying with OSHA Biohazard Safety Standards.
- Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center and/or PatientCentered Medical Home environment.
- Experience utilizing bilingual language skills in a professional setting (i.e. Arabic Spanish Ukrainian Dari Farsi and/or French).
Preferred Qualifications Medical Assistant II: - Experience with or formal training in retrieving imaging studies querying patient record database (i.e. COHRIO or similar).
- Experience with injections vaccine administration and documentation.
- Experience in training new hires.
- Experience with or formal training in phlebotomy and point of care testing.
- Experience utilizing bilingual language skills in a professional setting (i.e. Arabic Spanish Ukrainian Dari Farsi and/or French).
Knowledge Skills and Abilities: - Ability to take direction and utilize a considerable degree of independent judgment and work priorities.

Anticipated Pay Range: | The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as Medical Assistant I: $41600 to $43680 Medical Assistant II: $43680 to $45760 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
