Anesthesia Assistant

The Anesthesia Assistant (AA) is a specially trained healthcare professional with advanced academic and clinical education who assists the responsible Anesthesiologist with all aspects of the anesthesia care plan formulated for a particular patient. The AA executes complementary and supplementary therapeutic interventions and monitoring task functioning at times as a clinical extender. The AA will work exclusively within the Anesthesia Care Team (ACT) environment. This includes the Operating Room Post Anesthetic Care Unit Labour and Delivery and all other related areas where Anesthesia may be involved.

Under medical direction from the attending Anesthesiologist:

• Provide preoperative intraoperative and postoperative patient care and assessment.
• Technical duties as required.
• Preceptor/Supervision of Respiratory Therapy students during their OR rotation
• Other duties as assigned.  May include statistical and workload capture meeting attendance capital equipment planning and acquisition and educational responsibilities.

Qualifications :

• Member in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
• Mandatory certification of CCAA
• Graduation from an accredited Anesthesia Assistant Educational Program
• Current ACLS required at time of hire
• Certified Clinical Anesthesia Assistant designation required
• Current NRP
• Current PALS an asset
• Current experience in the operating room
• Current experience initiating and maintaining noninvasive and invasive mechanical ventilation
• Caring compassionate customer focused attitude towards patients and families
• Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact effectively with a multidisciplinary team
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Satisfactory attendance and employment record

Hours: Monday to Friday; 0and(hours are subject to change based on operational requirements)

Salary:  $48.712 to $64.215 per hour
