Whats the role
SIHP is seeking a compassionate missionaligned School Counselor to join our team at SIHP. Rooted in our commitment to global citizenship equity and academic excellence this role is central to supporting the socialemotional development and wellbeing of our students. The ideal candidate is a selfstarter with high expectations who is studentcentered deeply committed to fostering an inclusive and nurturing learning environment and passionate about helping young learners grow into empathetic ethical and curious individuals. They will work collaboratively with school staff families and external partners to create a supportive and responsive school culture where every child feels seen heard and valued.
What youll do
- Provide individual and group counseling to support students socialemotional academic and behavioral development.
- Use assessments and data to inform counseling services and interventions.
- Assist students in resolving social emotional and academic challenges through appropriate guidance.
- Develop and monitor SEL programming across classroom teaching small group and oneonone settings.
- Identify and support students needing targeted or intensive interventions in coordination with the Student Support Team (SST).
- Assist with the development and monitoring of 504 Plans Positive Behavior Support Plans and IEPs.
- Provide crisis intervention and maintain connections with external mental health providers.
- Support families with the middle school application process (K5).
- Provide guidance and resources to parents on child development and mental health.
- Organize and facilitate parent workshops on topics like academic strategies mental health and SEL.
- Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations nonprofits and businesses to enhance student opportunities.
- Coordinate mentorship and internship opportunities with local partners.
- Collaborate with SST and other stakeholders to support behavioral systems and restorative discipline practices.
- Consult with families teachers and administrators regarding student needs.
- Provide professional development for staff on mandated reporting crisis management and student wellness topics.
- Assist in maintaining the schools positive behavior support climate and equitycentered initiatives.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive school counseling plan based on school data and goals.
- Design and implement a summer enrichment program to support student growth during breaks.
- Create tools and resources to communicate the counseling programs objectives and results to stakeholders.
- Continuously monitor student performance behavior and attendance to support intervention planning.
- Ensure compliance with laws policies ethical standards and reporting mandates including child abuse or neglect.
- Maintain accurate records related to counseling and student support services.
- Track and analyze program data to guide decisionmaking and measure program impact.
- Occasionally participate in marketing and recruitment events on weekends and after school
- Highly motivated organized self starter with a enthusiastic & positive attitude
Who you are
- Masters in School Guidance Counseling; School counseling certification preferred
- Experience as a School Counselor preferred
- Five or more years of experience in an elementary school setting (preferred but not required)
- Experience and or knowledge of SEL programs such as Responsive Classroom
- K12 lead teaching experience in a classroom setting (preferred but not required)
- Experience in urban public charter or Title I schools is a plus
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Legally authorized to work in the USA
