Associate to Full Professor (tenure-track), Systems Biology in HIV/AIDS Investigator for the Division of Research, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP) at the University of Washington (UW) is hiring for a tenured faculty position at the Associate to Full Professor level to specialize in HIV/AIDS research and/or other globally relevant human pathogens. The successful candidate will be expected to lead an independently funded biomedical research program in HIV/AIDS and/or pathogen research exploring such topics as pathogenesis vaccines coinfections and persistence. This position will use state of the art transcriptomics/genomics approaches to develop and/implement preclinical nonhuman primate models of infectious disease.

This position in the DLMP aligns with unique resources available at the Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC) one of only seven such NIHsupported centers that was established in 1959 to provide specialized resources and expertise to carry out preclinical and translational research impacting human health. This position will support research programs employing nonhuman primate models and will be considered for a joint appointment as core faculty at WaNPRC. In addition the successful candidate will be expected to serve as the Director of the Systems Biology core of the WaNPRC and of Seattle Genomics a service core of the University of Washington that offers next generation sequencing and data analysis. These cores provide a unique opportunity for significant financial resources instrumentation and personnel to support the development of new cutting edge omics technologies to support research in nonhuman primate models of infectious diseases. This position will be highly collaborative with interest in supporting other investigators and demonstrate management and organizational skills in leading multiinvestigator research projects or centers. This position will be expected to seek and obtain independent extramural grant funding from federal organizations such as the NIH and/or private foundations.

The DLMP and School of Medicine will provide ample support to the candidate including generous startup resources and renovated laboratory space that will promote their longterm success. The DLMP is a large diverse department that houses cutting edge clinical laboratory testing and diagnostics excellence in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as innovative basic and translational research across broad topics supported by abundant external funding. The successful candidate would also be expected to actively participate in teaching and mentoring of trainees with the opportunity to become faculty in several diverse graduate programs including Molecular Mechanisms of Disease PhD program and the Medical Laboratory Scientist Masters program both of which are housed in the DLMP and provide many opportunities for mentoring and interacting with young clinical and research scientists. The candidate would also be expected to celebrate and join our commitment to a diverse inclusive and equitable culture in DLMP by teaching mentoring working with and collaborating with a broad community of individuals with varying backgrounds and experiences.

Associate Professors and full Professors (tenuretrack) hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12month service period (July 1June 30). Faculty with 12month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12month period (JulyJune) meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time position remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of 7/1/2025 but is flexible.

The base salary range for this position will be: $12250 to $25000 per month ($147000 to $300000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations.

Candidates must have a PhD in biology medicine or a related field (or foreign equivalent).
