Introduction


Delawares Attorney General the States chief law enforcement officer has a broad responsibility to combat crime uphold civil rights safeguard families fight fraud and protect consumers in the First State.

In meeting this mission Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the Criminal Civil Family Fraud and Consumer Protection and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion.

Deputy Attorneys General with critical support from criminal special investigators victim service specialists paraprofessionals and administrative staff prosecute criminal cases enforce consumer laws provide counsel to state agencies ensure the publics access to open government protect the abused and much more.

Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Justice is seeking a dedicated and detailoriented professional to join the Consumer Mediation Unit (CMU) within the Fraud and Consumer Protection Division as an Intake Specialist. A key function of the CMU is assisting consumers in resolving disputes with businesses.

The Intake Specialist serves as the initial point of contact for individuals seeking assistance with consumerrelated issues. This position plays a critical role in facilitating dispute resolution directing matters to the appropriate internal or external agencies and contributing to public education efforts aimed at promoting consumer awareness and protecting Delaware residents from fraud and unfair business practices. This position may be located in New Castle Kent or Sussex County.

Preferred Qualification

Applicants who meet the essential job requirements but lack the preferred qualifications are still eligible for consideration.

  • Familiarity with the Delaware Residential LandlordTenant Code

Essential Functions

The Intake Specialist will be responsible for carrying out the following assigned duties including but not limited to:

  • Receiving reviewing and processing a high volume of consumer complaints submitted by phone email letter fax or in person.
  • Assessing whether complaints are appropriate for informal mediation and communicating with consumers and businesses to seek resolution.
  • Conducting basic investigative tasks including document review and online research.
  • Referring matters outside the units scope to the appropriate agencies or resources (e.g. Department of Labor for employment issues).
  • Accurately documenting case activity using the case tracking system.
  • Monitoring and reporting patterns and trends in complaints to management for review.
  • Responding to general inquiries from the public and providing relevant consumer information or referrals.
  • Participating in consumer education and outreach events including informing the public about their rights scam prevention and DOJ services.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

  1. Two years of experience conducting research from multiple sources performing factfinding and followup actions analyzing data and preparing reports letters case files and other administrative documents.
  2. Two years of experience independently managing a highvolume caseload in a fastpaced environment with minimal supervision and consistent adherence to deadlines and attention to detail.
  3. Two years experience in coordinating administrative support operations tracking workflow and resolving problems providing guidance and consultation to management customers and others on administrative matters.
  4. One year experience in using an automated information system to enter update modify delete retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  5. One year experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing spreadsheets or databases.
