Role Purpose:

The AOD Clinician Forensic Group Programs Counselling & Assessment is responsible for administering the Kickstart program inclusive of groups (G24 and G42) Individual Programs (IP8 and IP15) and Kickstart Inductions.

Key areas of focus:

  • Provision of treatment services
  • Professional Liaison and consultation
  • Administration

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Providing high quality engagement assessment treatment and support services to individuals and their families through evidencebased therapeutic counselling and group work utilising an intersectional lens.

  • Developing treatment plans and providing effective counselling interventions and assertive referrals to meet the individual needs of clients and their families including those with complex needs.

  • Collaborating with the leadership team to plan and facilitatethe Kickstart groups program

  • Collaborating with the leadership team to plan and facilitate the Choices groups program (up to 4x sessions per year)

  • Collaborating with the Kickstart Admin team to communicate with CCOs and other treatment providers regarding a clients journey through the Kickstart process.

  • Providing generalist AOD counselling (both Forensic and nonforensic) as needed

  • Considering the needs of and identifying any risks to vulnerable children working with families to develop safety plans and facilitating referrals to partner Child First and Family service agents when indicated

  • Creating and maintaining sound working relationships/ partnerships with local corrections staff and departments

  • Communicating with individual stakeholders in a timely manner regarding a clients progress

  • Maintaining uptodate progress notes case files and data entry in a timely confidential and professional manner.

Who are WE looking for


To be successful in this role you must hold the below qualifications/experience

  1. Relevant health and or welfare Tertiary/Degree qualification e.g. in Social Work Psychology Nursing or Allied Health Sciences with experience and/or an Associate Diploma with substantial experience.
  2. Certificate IV or above level AOD competencies* as well as competencies in dual diagnosis (or working towards completing within the first 12 months of employment) * (Refer Appendix A)
  3. Experience in the provision of assessment and counselling services preferably with AOD or dual diagnosis clients.
  4. Experience with therapeutic approaches such as: Motivational Enhancement Therapy Cognitive Behavioural Coping Skills Training Family Inclusive Practice selfhelp groups Community Reinforcement Approaches.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of communitybased interventions for reducing alcohol and drug related harm.
  6. Ability to collaborate effectively with clients families colleagues stakeholders and other service providers.
  7. Proven ability to work with a range of people and organisations (including specific client groups such as Aboriginal CALD and Forensic clients) in a nonjudgmental and respectful manner.
  8. A demonstrated commitment to teamwork and the ability to take appropriate individual and team responsibility for the welfare of clients.

OV requires staff in clinical positions to have the following competencies (or their equivalent). Where people do not already have these competencies OV will invest in the staffs professional development by providing them through our registered training organisation (RTO).
