Safety and Training Manager

The primary role of this position is to run the administrative functions of the health and safety department periodically provide onsite health and safety assistance assist in ensuring compliance with regulatory agency guidance TH policies and procedures and with client requirements. Maintains a safe and healthy work environment and continuously striving for improvement. Works directly with the Health and Safety Director to facilitate the corporate wide health and safety program administration.

Essential Functions:

1. Has a working knowledge of OSHA regulatory guidance and ANSI ASTM NFPA EPA DOT and other applicable standards.
2. Have/develops a working knowledge of government state and client health safety and environmental rules and regulations
3. Assists the Director in implementing policies and procedures to ensure TH companies are in compliance with governmental regulatory requirements.
4. Audits TH company operations periodically to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and guidance TH policies and procedures and client requirements.
5. Conducts employee safety and health training in compliance with regulatory agency standards.
6. Provides Safety Health and Environmental consulting services for TH company employees and for existing and new clients
7. Assist in the investigation of employee work related injuries and near misses; assist in determination of root cause of the incident and assist with the implementation of corrective action(s) to prevent Thompson Engineering
8. Assist with medical case management for employee injuries to ensure proper treatment for the employee and to minimize the degree of seriousness.
9. Ensures employees have the necessary personal protective equipment and receive training in its proper use.
10. Maintains cell phone coverage to respond to incidents in a timely manner.
11. Assist the fleet manager ensuring compliance to DOT regulations provides driver training and monitors fleet tracking systems for traffic safety violations.
12. Be on time and consistent with attendance.
13. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

1. High School Diploma plus 3 years of safety and health experience in construction chemical paper petroleum manufacturing engineering or other industrial environment. Preferred: bachelors degree plus 5 plus years of related experience.
2. OSHA 30 hour course in construction or ability to complete within six months. Preferred: OSHA 500 or 501 trainer certification.
3. Working knowledge of OSHA standards and other applicable safety and health rules and regulations and ability to implement them.
4. Ability to write Job Safety and Environmental Analyses (JSEAs).
5. Ability to effectively communicate with management employees and clients to affect continuous safety and health program improvement
6. Computer literate in Word Excel Power Point and has ability to develop proficiencies in other IT platforms.
7. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
8. Proven experience in conducting Toolbox Safety/Tailgate training.

Physical Requirements:

1. Must be able to travel to outlying offices and client field locations and provide periodic support to specific projects that demand fulltime safety presence.
2. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
3. Must be able to climb stoop and bend and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
4. Ability to work in the outside elements of the field including industrial sites and construction sites.
5. Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as head hearing eye respiratory protection and others.
6. Required to remain standing for up to 8 hours per work day and walk on uneven/unstable surfaces in industrial and construction settings.
