If you are a POLYMER TECHNICIAN professional looking for an opportunity to grow Copeland has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in our Sidney Ohio location you will prepare samples perform testing and evaluate data for nonmetallic materials within the HVACR Technologies Materials Engineering Laboratory team to support new and existing programs. You have effective verbal and written communication to allow you to partner with others across the organization. You are willing to take on the challenge of unfamiliar tasks and learn quickly when facing new situations. You ensure safety remains a top priority when completing both routine and new tasks.

AS A POLYMER TECHNICIAN YOU WILL:

  • Prepare polymer samples using varying techniques such as cutting grinding mounting polishing etc. for further analysis.
  • Perform appropriate tests and analyses to accurately evaluate compatibility and performance of materials with compressor oils and compressed gas refrigerants.
  • Determine physical and mechanical properties (such as hardness tensile strength compressive strength) of nonmetallic materials. Use modify or create new test methods as necessary.
  • Collaborate internally with engineers and scientists to define project objectives implement appropriate tests interpret results and present clear and concise data reports.
  • Perform analysis of nonmetallic samples or component parts (polymers and elastomers) to assist in engineering investigations using problem solving methodology and analytical instrumentation as necessary.
  • Support chemistry team sample preparation and testing (such as sample filtering viscosity analysis titrations) as needed.
  • Assist with material supply ordering daily laboratory upkeep.
  • Participate in laboratory safety 5S and continuous improvement efforts.

Onsite Work Arrangement:

This role is based fully onsite and not eligible for hybrid or remote work opportunities. We offer the flexibility of a core hour work schedule. Employees can flex their start and stop times given they are working during the core hours of 9:00am 3:00pm. Our teams work together to ensure their chosen work schedules are supporting our customers.

REQUIRED EDUCATION EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Minimum 3 years of related experience working in a chemical materials or engineering laboratory or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience with working in a laboratory using analytical or mechanical equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of individuals including Product Development Engineering Production Supply Chain and Procurement.
  • Proficient with Microsoft products.
  • Ability to lift 40 lb.
  • Experience with laboratory safety protocols for chemicals.
  • Legal Authorization to work in the United States Sponsorship will not be provided for this role.

PREFERRED EDUCATION EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Associates or Bachelors Degree in Chemistry Chemical Engineering Materials Engineering Polymer Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related laboratory chemical or engineering experience.
  • Experience with polymer testing equipment such as Instron microscopes and autoclave test vessels.
