Job Title: Deaf Education Teacher
Reports to: Principal / Deaf Ed. Coordinator
Dept./School: Special Education/Assigned Campus
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Pay Grade/Days: Teacher Pay Scale/187 Days

Primary Purpose:
Provide deaf education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability and communication levels. Work in selfcontained team inclusion departmental or itinerant capacity as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelors degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required deaf education endorsements for assignments
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to communicate in sign language specific to system chosen by ARD committee
Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
Knowledge of Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Experience:
At least one year student teaching or approved internship

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) and/or sign language interpreter(s).

Maintain emotional control under stress. Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desk and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to control behavior through physical restraint. Exposure to biological hazard.
