Position:Sales Tax Accountant
Reports to Title:Manager Senior Tax Advisor
Department/Division:Finance
Primary Work Location:Bloomington MN
Job Code/Classification: Non Exempt
Parttime 2025 hours per week
Position Overview
The Sales Tax Accountant is responsible for preparing sales tax and use returns Canada GST/HST returns and unclaimed property returns ensuring applicable tax rates are appropriately set up in our systems reconciling sales tax collected to amounts remitted and completing other filings requested by US states or Canada to minimize liabilities and ensure compliance with sales and use tax laws.

- Prepare and file all sales tax returns for multiple entities by filing deadlines
- Prepare and file Canada returns and file by all filing deadlines
- Reconcile sales tax filings to amounts being collected from customers and research differences with amounts remitted to the States
- Reconcile sales and use tax accounts to the general ledger each month
- Update tax rates in systems and ensure all rates are current
- Prepare and file unclaimed property returns and file by all filing deadlines
- Receive and file all exemption certificates
- Respond to any notices received from States or Canada
- Participate in any State/Canada tax audits
- Administer the Avalara Sales Tax System
- Assist in various specific tax projects as assigned which may involve research and compliance in sales and use tax and other related business filings
Competencies (Knowledge and Skills needed for this position.)
- Experience filings sales tax returns in multiple states
- Experience utilizing Avalara tax system is a plus
- Intermediate or higher skill level with Excel
- Strong analytical skills and must be able to utilize pivot tables and Vlookups as needed.
- Strong organization skills as well as verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate the behavioral and technical competencies necessary to effectively complete position responsibilities. Take personal initiative for technical and professional development.
- Safeguard sensitive and confidential Company information.
- Follow the HR policy including all company and department policies and procedures.
- Meet all performance and behavior expectations outlined in the company performance appraisal and / or communicated by management.

Desired Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting; or equivalent work experience and knowledge.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years related experience including State Sales tax filings.

Pay Transparency Notice:
Depending on your work location the target hourly rate for this position can range from $28.00 $38.00. Compensation for roles at GN depend on a wide array of factors including but not limited to location role skill set and level of experience.
