Job Summary:
Worcester Technical High School is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Agriculture Science Teacher to inspire and educate our students in the diverse and vital field of agriculture. The successful candidate will develop and deliver engaging curriculum foster a handson learning environment and play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of agricultural professionals and informed citizens. A commitment to student success collaboration and the integration of innovative teaching methods is essential. The selected candidate will also serve as the FFA Advisor providing leadership and guidance to our studentled agricultural organization.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging and rigorous agriculture science curriculum aligned with state standards and best practices.
- Create a dynamic and interactive classroom and laboratory environment that promotes active learning and critical thinking.
- Deliver instruction in a variety of agricultural science topics with a focus on plant and animal science.
- Incorporate experiential learning opportunities including laboratory activities projects and potentially field trips.
- Assess student learning through various methods providing timely and constructive feedback to support student growth.
- Collaborate with other teachers counselors and administrators to support student success.
- Maintain accurate student records and communicate effectively with parents/guardians.
- Serve as the FFA Advisor including:
- Mentoring and advising student FFA officers and members.
- Facilitating FFA meetings activities and competitions.
- Promoting student participation in FFA events at the local state and national levels.
- Managing FFA finances and fundraising activities.
- Participate in required summer professional learning focused on the CASE (Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education) curriculum.
- Stay current with advancements in agricultural science and educational best practices.
- Adhere to all school and county policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Agricultural Science or a closely related field is preferred. Candidates with significant and relevant experience in the agricultural industry will also be considered.
- Possession of or eligibility for Maryland teacher certification in Agricultural Education is required.
- Candidates not possessing a valid Maryland Teaching License are required to be licensed within two years of hire date.
- Take four courses (12 credits) through UMES or any other institution of higher learning offer the required course work.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in plant and animal science.
- Strong communication interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with high school students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
- Enthusiasm for agriculture and a commitment to student engagement and success.
Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
- Experience implementing the CASE (Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education) curriculum.
- Prior experience teaching agriculture science at the high school level.
- Experience serving as an FFA advisor.
- Knowledge of current agricultural technologies and practices.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of required summer professional learning on the CASE curriculum.
- Commitment to serving as the FFA Advisor for the Worcester Technical High School chapter.
Duty Year and Salary:
This certified teaching position is regulated under the Worcester County Teachers Association (WCTA) Negotiated Agreement. The contracted work year is 188 days.
