Job Description

Title: Behavioral/Instructional Staff Assistant

Calendar: A School Days

ESP Salary Schedule: Range 40 Step 1
Hours:5.9/Day 29.5/Week

Location: Ogden Technical High School

Position begins SY(August 2025)



General Purpose

The Educational Support Personnel plays a vital role in facilitating the academic success and support services for students. This position involves various responsibilities aimed at enhancing communication providing academic guidance and fostering a supportive environment for students and teachers alike.

Instructional Staff Assistant needed to work individually and with small groups of students who have instructional needs above and beyond classroom.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide students with information and guidance regarding their academic progress in OWTC courses.
  • Collaborate with the OWTC designated personnel to gather and share progress data on each student ensuring students are successfully meeting progress expectations.
  • Direct instructional intervention and behavior services support for students.
  • Tracking student progress in OWTC courses to encourage and support students in maintaining sufficient academic progress.
  • Connect students to support resources available at both OTECH High School and the OWTC including tutoring services academic advising and counseling.
  • Act as a liaison between students and staff facilitating access to resources and addressing any barriers to academic success.
  • Improve communication channels between OTECH High School and OWTC fostering a seamless transition for students between high school and college environments.
  • Facilitate meetings to promote collaboration and exchange of information between high school teachers and college instructors as needed.
  • Assist in the testing center at OTECH High School overseeing test administration monitoring student progress and ensuring adherence to testing protocols.
  • Engage with students during independent work time providing academic guidance motivation and support as needed.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and collaboration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including administrative tasks event coordination and program support activities.
  • Adapt to evolving needs and priorities demonstrating flexibility and willingness to contribute to the overall success of the educational community.
  • Support teacher instructional interventions in the classroom and work with the Positive Behavior Support Program.
  • Student data entry and monitoring using data systems.
  • Aid counselors with the student registration process.
  • Answer telephones greet the public and assist guidance secretaries as needed.
  • Guide students through computer generated career exploration assessment.
  • Maintain various data banks and publish lists of information.
  • Schedule students or make changes under the direction of a counselor.
  • Schedule appointments and mails information as requested.
  • Assist teachers in working oneonone with students in core classes.
  • Monitor and reinforce behavioral interventions and programs as outlined.
  • Assist in teaching social/academic skills.
  • Monitor/record data required for behavior academic and IEP plans.
  • Mediate arguments fights between students.
  • Notify supervisor of serious rule infractions/incidents.
  • Administer minor first aid.
  • Enforce school rules.
  • Supervise students and intervene when socially appropriate.
  • Assist with bilingual/monolingual children in understanding classroom material.
  • Develop coordinate and host Career and College Exploration for Juniors involving more than 12 college workshop presentations from two local colleges: coordinate/communicate with workshop presenters; coordinate classroom/student participation and student handout.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • 48 college credit hours or a passing score on the ParaPro test
  • Six (6) months of related experience working with elementary age children behavior management and/or coaching. This position requires a positive open and patient attitude.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • The job occasionally requires light physical exertion including walking standing motor vehicle operation and other forms of light physical activity.
  • The job occasionally requires a moderate level of physical exertion such as handling medium weight materials (1150 pounds) extensive standing walking crawling bending stooping or climbing or assisting special education students with their physical needs.
  • Work is carried out in an agreeable environment as generally represented by normal office conditions and little or no unpleasant elements.
  • Work is occasionally carried out in mildly disagreeable conditions. Work involves exposure to unpleasant elements such as noise ventilation crowded nature of work exposure to outside weather conditions pressures related to sensitive situations sitting;/standing in one position for an extended period of time yield a perceptible level of discomfort.
  • Typically involves contact with students parents teachers principal assistant principal and/or other staff members.
