About the Department:
The Department of Psychology ( has a diverse student body of over 1500 undergraduate majors and over 350 graduate students many of whom are first generation college students. We are one of the largest departments in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences which is the largest academic unit at George Mason. The department has over 50 faculty members including 9 instructional nontenuretrack faculty positions. Nontenuretrack instructional faculty are vital to the department in their support of its instructional mission. They are expected to be fully familiar with research but are not expected to be research productive. Nontenuretrack faculty are fully integrated in the department with voting rights commensurate with rank and status and with similar access to resources such as travel funds and professional development opportunities as tenuretrack faculty. More broadly George Mason is committed to supporting the career development of all faculty ( with a specific emphasis on nontenuretrack faculty ( department is guided by three primary aims. First in line with George Masons Carnegie classification as a Research I university our department conducts research of consequence and had $3.4M in research expenditures in the last fiscal year. Second we focus strongly on our training of students across all five of our graduate areas (applied developmental psychology clinical psychology industrial/organizational psychology cognitive and behavioral neuroscience and human factors and applied cognition). Third we focus on undergraduate training and research including through our thriving Undergraduate Honors Program. The Term Assistant Professor supports both the clinical psychology doctoral program and the undergraduate program. More specifically the Term Assistant Professor participates in teaching of doctoral level courses and supervision of doctoral students clinical work in our communitybased training clinic ( and teaching at the undergraduate level.
Responsibilities:
- Teaches graduate courses in the clinical psychology program in the psychology department including courses involving supervising clinical doctoral students in the provision of therapy and/or assessment services; and
- Teaches undergraduate courses in the psychology department.
Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in a related field from an APAaccredited health service psychology program;
- A commitment to the education of a diverse student body;
- A strong interest and expertise in evidencebased behavioral health approaches such as CBT DBT ACT and Exposure and Response Prevention;
- Experience providing supervision in cognitive behavioral therapy is required;
- Knowledge of evidencebased behavioral health approaches such as CBT DBT ACT and Exposure and Response Prevention;
- The ability to provide supervision in cognitive behavioral therapy is required; and
- Clinical license or licenseeligible in Virginia.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree from a clinical science based training program;
- Experience providing culturally responsive care and the ability to supervise assessments; and
- Knowledge of culturally responsive care and the ability to supervise assessments.
