JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education the Special Education Behavior Specialist is responsible for enhancing the effectiveness of special education services across the district by leading professional development and providing ongoing coaching to staff. The specialist focuses on improving the quality of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) by guiding educators in setting appropriate academic and behavioral goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters degree in Social Work Psychology or related field
- Minimum of four years of professional experience in special education
- Valid Iowa Iowa license/certification
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and implements district level professional development focused on creating effective and appropriate academic and behavior goals for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Provides coaching and support to special education staff regarding effective instruction review and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Provides coaching and support for managing reviewing and revising Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Assists with conducting functional academic and behavior assessments.
- Assists with data analysis and evaluation using data outcomes for implementing plans at an individual group or systems level.
- Consults and collaborates with teachers administrators and parents to problem solve and develop coordinated action plans for students receiving services.
- Responsible for reviewing and approving Medicaid documentation for the District.
- Engages in professional development related to functions and responsibilities of position.
- Completes all required training.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Assists with periodic and requested reports.
- Provides input to improve District processes.
- Performs other jobrelated duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Frequent sitting; moderate walking and standing; occasional stooping bending and kneeling
- Ability to carry and lift up to 25 lbs.
- Use of hands to finger handle and feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms
- Specific vision abilities to include close distance and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus
