Department Summary

The Division of Student Life supports the universitys academic mission and strategic plan through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Student Life includes four major portfolios the Office of the Dean of Students Experiential Learning & Engagement Health & Wellbeing and Division Administration. Key programs and departments within the division include but are not limited to University Health Services Erb Memorial Union Physical Education & Recreation Parent and Family Programs Major Student Events (Commencement Homecoming University Day) Fraternity and Sorority Life Counseling Health Promotion Multicultural and Identity Based Support Services Student Government Engagement & Success Student Conduct and Community Standards and Support for Students in Crisis and Students of Concern.

The Erb Memorial Union (EMU) is a department of the Division of Student Life. The EMU is a multifaceted auxiliary service that employs over 90 professional staff and 400 student staff and serves over 15 thousand daily users during the academic year. The EMU welcomes students faculty staff the community and visitors to campus and its mission is to provide learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth in an open inclusive and resourcerich community where students and staff collaborate to inspire and sustain extraordinary programs and services that promote diversity and social interaction. The EMU is student centered and is operated in collaboration with a student Board who are actively involved in determining the character and scope of the department and approve the budget recommendations of all EMU services and programs.

The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) focuses on two main areas: Resource Center and Student Activities Board
The CSI Resource Center is a unique collaborative program between the EMU and ASUO. Both ASUO student organizations and other UO student organizations will have access to advising training and resources in a space which they can call home. Our Vision is to be a hub of information and resources where student organizations can create build and connect students through fun events services and traditions.
The Student Activities Board through multiple teams creates events that are desired by the UO student population and provide students with opportunities for social and intellectual development. Event content will vary from themed parties to intimate concerts; they will include long standing traditions and adaptive new creations all to fill the needs of UO Students.

Position Summary

The Assistant Program Director is a staff member of the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) and reports to the CSI Program Director. The purpose of this position is to advise and supervise student leaders on the Student Activities Board in the creation of high quality events including late night and weekend events primarily designed to engage University of Oregon students 24/7. The position also serves as the Gallery Manager and oversees exhibits that represent the diverse backgrounds of our student population and works in conjunction with several academic units and university programs.

This position serves as a resource and active member of the larger Student Union Programs Staff. The position also serves as a creator of and an advocate for development of social campus climate professional development and current event programming. In this role the individual will have a high level of decision making that has the potential to impact campus wide and community audiences. Contact with community and media is anticipated to be significant and impactful. The position is responsible for oversight of budget implementation of contracts and supervision of officers of administration classified staff GTFs student employees interns and volunteers. This position will hire direct schedule evaluate train discipline and manage the activities of professional staff student staff and volunteers. The role will also assist in the selection process for student scholarship positions.

This position serves as the program lead when the Program Director is on leave and typically requires willingness to work evenings and weekends when necessary and to travel.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
5 years experience managing student programs and services in a higher education setting.
One year experience supervising professional staff.
One year experience in event planning and execution.
One year budget management experience.

Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Strong customer service skills.
Strong presentation and public relations skills including ability to give public presentations and adjust communication to appropriate audiences.
Experience and ability to work with guide advise and supervise students and staff.
Knowledge of or experience with culturallyenriched programming as it relates to persistence in college as well as ability to develop programming to reach underserved populations.
Ability to take initiative and demonstrate attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree.
Experience with project management.
Knowledge of Identity Development theories.
Experience with Fine Art Galleries or Art Exhibitions.
