Member Relations Representative
Based in Northern Virginia
Job Purpose
FCFT is a union of Fairfax Co. Public School workers. Our members consist of Teachers Transportation Paraeducators (IAs) and Administrative / Support Staff. This is a fulltime bargaining unit position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist individual members in need of legal representation by following intake procedures creating case logs and referral to available law firms
- Tracks attorney/member meeting schedules updates case logs answer members questions
- Assist individual members and defense representatives in preparing and processing grievances to include correspondence hearing preparations and scheduling meetings
- Follows up with members regularly to ensure cases have met FCFTs customer service objectives
- Compiles and creates reports on customer service response data
- Maintains confidential files and records
- Types letters memoranda reports and other correspondence material from marginal notes rough drafts dictation and/or verbal instructions including correct grammar spelling and punctuation
- Attend meetings and takes and transcribes minutes
- Continually keep current on federal state and local labor laws
- Guides members on matters related to workplace issues
- Reviews and edits caserelated documents and ensure proper safekeeping and documentation on all sensitive member information
- Conduct the reconciliation process with school system representatives on member issues
- Maintenance of detailed notes logs and data are essential
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Member Relations Rep Local President and Executive Director
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelors Degree and/or at least 5 years of labor/labor relations experience in a unionized setting.
Skills:
- Qualified candidates must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
- Organized and detailoriented with the ability to prioritize
- Proficient in Word Excel Outlook Power Point calendaring and scanning/storing documents
- Knowledge of contract negotiation and grievance procedures strongly preferred
- Familiar with school system policies and procedures preferred
- Data and detailminded (organizational skills)
Ability to:
- Research and understanding policy
- Show initiative creativity and exercise sound judgment
- Keep sensitive information confidential
- Act collected and professional under pressure
- Quickly develop an understanding of FCFT culture
Working conditions
The Member Relations Representative primarily works in the FCFT office but will attend meetings outside the office. Special working conditions may occasionally require evening holiday or weekend work. Candidates must also have a valid drivers license.
Physical requirements

Salary and Benefits
This position is covered by our collective bargaining agreement with the WashingtonBaltimore News Guild. The startingsalary of this position is $65000.
