Job Title: AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Supervisory Responsibilities: AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM ASSISTANTS/SUBSTITUTES

Position Type: FULLTIME

FLSA Classification: NonExempt

Reports To: PRINCIPAL/ Student Services Coordinator: Diversity Equity and Poverty

*Location: VARIES BASED ON ASSIGNED LOCATION

Compensation:

Commensurate with salary range on the DCPS salary schedule for class code 7324

Hours Per Day: 4.0

Contracted Days: 181

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Be at least 21 years of age

Have a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma(GED)

Official written and verifiable documentation of previous fulltime paid experience in a licensed center or certified home (up to 3 years depending on educational level) that has been signed by the licensee or lead representative and/or training documentation.

Not be employed in a position other than an onsite care director or director of multiple facilities during the hours the childcare center is in operation

Knowledge Of:

  • Current concepts used in Early Childhood Development.
  • Subject matter and curriculum planning for a child development program.
  • Basic child psychology and principles and theories of child growth and development.
  • Principles and theories of parentchild relationships.
  • Policies procedures and philosophy of a child development center.
  • Principles of supervision and training.
  • Health and safety requirements of children.
  • Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
  • Methods of observing evaluating and recording child behavior.
  • Budget preparation and control.
  • Equipment materials and supplies used in a preschool childrens center.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesy.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

Direct efforts in providing a safe environment in addition to enhancing student learning and wellness after school hours.

Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan develop organize and evaluate learning programs and experiences for the development of school age children in a learning environment.

Explain principles theories and practical application of growth and development of children.

Provide work direction and guidance to Center employees volunteers and students.

Analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.

Complete work with many interruptions.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others including a variety of ages and cultures.

Plan and direct the activities of the Child Care with enthusiasm and consideration of childrens needs.

Develop and revise instructional materials appropriate for assigned age levels.

Purchase inventory store and maintain supplies and equipment for the Center.

Develop and maintain effective relationships with employees preschool children students parents and supervisors.

Be punctual and work independently with little direction.

Maintain annual required child care training in the field and see that each staff members training is uptodate.

Maintain a healthy and safe learning environment.

Apply appropriate first aid and CPR.

Plan and organize work.

Meet schedules and time lines.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff and supervisors.

Maintain confidentiality related to all issues involving the child and his/her family.

Seek feedback on program improvement from all involved and make changes accordingly.

Demonstrate professional attitude neat appearance emotional stability and good judgment.

Be courteous cooperative and professional with supervisors staff and parents.

Apply and explain policies procedures rules and regulations including conducting required safety drills.

Performs other duties that may not be specifically covered in this general job description as assigned by the Principal or District Director.
