This position is part of a 24/7 operation and may be subject to standby callouts remote alarming and emergency response throughout the year for the Carseland Bow headworks system Twin Valley Dam Clear Lake Project McGregor and Travers Dams the Deadfish Pumphouse and Pipeline and the Sheerness System with a total of 8 high consequence dams.

Role Responsibilities
If you have a strong mechanical aptitude and are interested in contributing to water management in the southern Alberta then we have an opportunity for you as a Water Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Supervisor.
Reporting to the area Team Lead this position is responsible for implementing the normal operating plans flood action plans geotechnical instrumentation data collection workflows surveillance inspections and emergency response plans for water infrastructure projects located in the Bow Basin Vulcan area that includes river diversions weirs embankment canals and dams large hydraulic structures including canal check/drops and spillways and complex electromechanical data acquisition and controls systems.
Primary responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Operation of water infrastructure systems to provide a secured supply of water for licensed water users including Irrigation Districts municipalities industry the aquatic environment and recreational users.
- Conducting infrastructure inspections identifying and documenting deficiencies and coordinating followup corrective maintenance and repair work orders.
- Participating in the dam safety monitoring and surveillance program including collecting geotechnical instrumentation field data.
- Participating in emergency preparedness planning exercises and stakeholder engagement for potential flood or dam structural emergencies.
- Conducting preventative maintenance and repair projects and coordinating with contractors.
- Participating in a standby/oncall rotation for the critical infrastructure systems as required.
- Providing operational input into capital rehabilitation projects engineering investigations and dam safety assessments.
- Supervising and leading one or more direct report technologists.
As the ideal candidate for the Water Operations and Maintenance Supervisor position within the Water Infrastructure Operations branch you will possess:
- Experience with operation and maintenance of water management infrastructure (dams canals hydraulic regulating structures) or related industrial facilities and civil infrastructure.
- Proficiency in monitoring and data management systems such as SCADA Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition.
- Ability to supervise staff and contractors manage performance and ensure operational compliance in a similar operational or maintenance environment.
- Capability to participate in flood routing exercises and provide support during hghwater events.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications such as Word Excel Outlook Teams PowerPoint etc.

Qualifications
A twoyear technical diploma from an accredited institution in Engineering Sciences Water Resources the Trades or a closely related discipline supplemented by four (4) years of handson operation and maintenance experience or equivalent as described below.
Equivalencies:
- Equivalent related experience with other industrial facilities large civil/mechanical infrastructure projects will be considered.
- Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of experience for 1 year of education; or 1 year of education for 1 year of experience.
Additional assets will be considered as follows:
- Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) training or certification such as First Aid fall protection and/or confined space entry.
- Supervisory experience including with water management infrastructure.
- Experience with industrial monitoring and data management systems such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- C.E.T or C. Tech designation with ASET or certified Trades designation.
- Working knowledge of dam and canal system operations.
- Contract management experience.
- Familiarity with Albertas Water Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act Regulation and Code.

This position works a 40hour week Monday to Friday.
Travel within the community will be necessary therefore reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Drivers License is required. Further the incumbent will be required to reside within a 30minute response time to provide timely response for emergency callouts during normal and flood operations while on the standby rotations.
An on call shift (24/7) may be required on a rotational basis approximately every fourth week throughout the year after initial training has been completed.
This position requires working alone during regular working hours and while on standby and it may require working in adverse weather conditions.
