About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Technical Officer to work as part of the Northern Inland Branch Conservation Team contributing towards the conservation of the natural environment flora fauna and aboriginal heritage. The Technical Officer is responsible for providing technical leadership coordination and support for conservation related programs and activities including priority pest and weed management activities. The role is responsible for preparing mapping for strategic pest and weed programs as well as monitoring and reporting on conservation effort spatial database inquiry and management managing activity data and information requirements for strategy development and reporting and ensuring quality and statutory standards are maintained. The role also includes training and supporting staff in the use of field data collection programs.

The role will offer you variety and the opportunity to:

  • undertake planning to support the implementation of extensive aerial and groundbased pest animal and weed control programs
  • provide technical support for assessment to identify bushfire impacts and recovery priorities including mapping spatial data analysis and reporting
  • monitor compliance with statutory and policy requirements in relation to pesticides and firearms management and use
  • provide technical coordination and logistical support and training to teams and other staff
  • provide data and information for reporting.

About you

Were keen to hear from you if you have a proven track record in conservation and/or related bushfire recovery programs and are adept at proactively scheduling and delivering planning and reporting information from operational systems that supports decision making and other operational and corporate programs.

Essential requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated experience with systems databases and spatial system applications; data capture standards and spatial analysis to inform decision making in an environmental management context.
  • Proven experience implementing new systems and processes and supporting system technology change programs with operational staff.
  • Willingness to work weekends and after hours as required and the ability and willingness to participate in the management of wildfire and other emergency incidents.
  • Current Australian Drivers License and willingness to fly in light aircraft.
