Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide services to help children succeed academically socially behaviorally and emotionally by collaborating with educators parents and other professionals to create safe healthy and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home school and the community for all students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with teachers and school staff to individualize instruction and monitor student progress in order to improve behavior and/or learning.
  • Participate regularly and sometimes lead problemsolving teams at all levels (district school grade classroom student) to analyze data and select evidencebased interventions and supports.
  • At the systems level collaborate with staff to develop and sustain multitiered systems of support (MTSS) and positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS).
  • Collaborate with staff and parents to implement evidencebased strategies to support students within the school setting.
  • Consult with staff and parents about proactive curricula and resources.
  • Assist teachers and staff in incorporating evidencebased activities and practices in small and wholegroup instruction within the school setting.
  • Conduct assessments and analyze student grade and schoollevel data in order to provide recommendations for staff and families.
  • Observe describe and refer children with suspected impairments.
  • Serve on multidisciplinary evaluation teams to complete comprehensive evaluations to identify whether students are eligible for special education services.
  • Design individualized programs for each IDEAeligible student in the least restrictive environment based on a comprehensive evaluation.
  • Complete IEPs and other required paperwork in accordance with timelines.
  • Maintain records and complete Medicaid SchoolBased Services billing if required.
  • Assist in proper referrals of students to agencies and specialists within the community.
  • Participate in regular professional learning opportunities to stay abreast of current researchbased practices within the field.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises students.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Masters degree in school psychology or equivalent.
  • Completion of 45 graduate hours in school psychology or related area in addition to an internship.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Michigan School Psychologist Certificate.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients customers and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students peers parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or verbal communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly will sit walk and stand.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is frequently exposed to infection at a greater risk than the average person. The employee is directly responsible for the safety wellbeing and work output of students. Must be able to meet multiple demands from several people.
