Monday Friday Varied Day/Evening Shifts

Weekend and holiday rotation

Under the direction of a Clinical Manager assists with assessing planning implementing Occupational Therapy to patients. Maintains the operational aspects of the therapy unit in collaboration with the Clinical Manager. Further contributes to the Physical Medicine Department Hospital and the American Occupational Therapy Association through support of philosophy objectives educational and research efforts. Is responsible for the supervision of subordinate staff students and volunteers as delegated by department administrative personnel. May be required to travel between clinical sites to assist in provision of care.

  3. Demonstrates a high level of competency with documentation which includes the following components at a minimum: treatment provided patient response relevant communication patient education plan of care revisions update of goals and patient progress.
  4. Able to complete an orthopedic neurologic acute care behavioral health and rehab evaluation and establish appropriate goals and treatment plan.
  5. Initiates a treatment plan and advances the plan according to the patient response; implements all treatments including modalities manual approaches; group approaches on behavioral health and therapeutic exercise with a high level of technical skill.
  6. Demonstrates fundamental knowledge and application of orthotics prosthetics and/or assistive devices for use during ADLs for functional mobility.
  7. Demonstrates the ability to manage IVs NG tubes PEG tubes and oxygen during patient treatments.
  8. Demonstrates fundamental principals of splinting.
  9. Identifies the need to reassess the patient in a timely manner.
  10. Serves as an effective educator and mentor to patients families other staff clinical students and the community.
  11. Overlaps the various elements of treatment to include a holistic approach that maintains the highest levels of professional morals and ethics; compassion; knowledge and clinical reasoning.
  12. Identifies emergency situations and responds appropriately.

Physical and Mental Requirements: : Classified as medium work by the Dictionary of Occupational Titles: May exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible (up to 10 pounds) force constantly in order to move objects.
Stands frequently on tile or carpet during a normal shift.
Walks throughout hospital frequently.
Sits on a hard or cushioned chair occasionally.
Lifts up to 20 pounds to and from floor to waist level on an occasional basis.
Carries up to 15 pounds occasionally for distances of up to 50 feet.
Pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Occasionally bends from higher to lower levels.
Frequently twisting squatting and kneeling during a normal shift.
Reaches occasionally to heights of up to two feet overhead.
Manual dexterity and digital sensitivity (i.e. operate keyboard program equipment etc.)
Good hand/eye coordination.
Nearvisual acuity with color perception in order to view computer screen decipher fine print etc.
Auditory acuity; able to hear telephone conversation overhead pagers alarms and normal voice tones when not facing the individual.


Mental Demands:
Able to effectively manage multiple clinical situations simultaneously.
Able to perceive the total long term clinical picture and progress towards long term goal(s) in positive increments.

Working Environment: Conditions that a person in this position is subject to during a normal workday. Possible exposure to patients with infectious diseases or to bodily fluids which may contain infectious agents. In addition to working in the Physical Medicine Department may also be required to work in satellites or to engage in jobrelated activities outside the hospital such as industrial settings skilled Care Facilities schools to provide client care and education on a contractual basis.


Reporting Structure:
A. Formal Reporting and Chain of Command Reports to an assigned Clinical Manager and in his/her absence to the administrative designee.
B. Informal Reporting Relationships Establishes and maintains positive and effective working relationships within the Physical Medicine Department with other departments physicians care providers or customers. These behaviors and relationships will be assessed at least annually as identified within the competency structure.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited program with a degree in Occupational Therapy.


Experience: Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required.


Certifications/Licensure: Licensed as a Occupational Therapist in Pennsylvania required or maintain a temporary occupational therapist license required. Registered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) required. Maintains current CPR certification.
