Summary:
The instructional assistant provides assistance to the classroom teachers in the management and instruction of students in the classroom and on the units as needed; performs related tasks as required and directed; works under the direction and supervision or the classroom teachers; however the assistant may independently carry out particular routine aspects of the instructional program and school wide duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
The minimum performance expectations include but are not limited to the following:
- Reliable attendance and prompt arrival
- Maintain and respect confidentiality of students/patients and colleagues
- Carry out instructional plans in the classrooms and on units as designated by the education director teachers and students IEPs including 1:1 assistance as needed
- Assist classroom teachers in preparation of materials and teaching aids
- Assist students individually and in groups with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts
- Maintain positive safe and orderly classroom environment
- Assist in maintaining classroom management that fosters a safe and positive learning environment
- Assist in ensuring safe supervision of all students
- Assists in performing therapeutic interventions in compliance with SOP SCS and hospital regulations
- Take necessary and reasonable precautions following hospital safety protocols to protect students colleagues material and facility
- Assist in ensuring the safe and proper physical movement of students/patients between classes and to units
- Reports promptly to assigned/designated areas
- Maintains current certifications in areas as required by CCCA and SCS to include CPR certification Therapeutic Options annual certification first aid training and other training modules
- Attends required meetings and inservices as required by State Operated Programs CCCA and SCS
- Complies with and supports school hospital and division regulations and policies
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
- Performs other duties as assigned by classroom teachers and education director in accordance with school hospital and division policies and practices
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrate basic reading writing and computation skills
- Experience working with children; preferred experience with mental health and trauma informed care
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Criminal background check is required as a condition of employment
- High school Diploma or equivalent GED and
- must have a minimum of 48 college credits or a minimum of an Associates Degree or achieved a minimum score of 455 on the Paraprofessional Assessment.
