About the Library In alignment with the ambitious vision and core aspirations of Transformation 2030 the University of Ottawa Library advances cutting edge research and supports transformative learning by connecting the uOttawa community to expertise services collections and technology in a welcoming and supportive environment. The University of Ottawa Library is composed of 3 main libraries the Morisset Library (Arts and Science) the Brian Dickson Law Library and the Health Sciences Library in addition to a number of specialized research collections. It has approximately 150 employees including 55 librarians serving the students faculty and employees of the University.
Position purpose:
Supports users through specialized consultation services in the areas of Digital Humanities (DH) tools and software online exhibit creation digitization digital asset management and metadata. Works closely with members of the Research Services division to respond to user inquiries and actively contributes to the development of new service offerings.
In this role your responsibilities will include:
Information Services: Working closely with members of the Arts and Special Collections department provides reference services of a general and specialized nature in the areas of digital projects and digitization including providing assistance with software equipment and tools. Ensures users are supported in the effective use of the Librarys tools resources and services and works to provide assistance that is aligned with defined service levels.
Workshops and training: Organizes and delivers orientation sessions and workshops both individually and in collaboration with Library colleagues. Promotes and supports the use of software and tools that facilitate access management and use of digital collections.
Learning tools: Contributes to or leads the development of tutorials guides documentation and other selflearning tools to enable users to effectively access and make use of information resources for teaching learning and research activities.
Infrastructure: Contributes to the ongoing design development maintenance and improvement of infrastructure for digitization services and digital collections.
Metadata: In consultation with team members researchers and members of the Metadata and Processing Department the incumbent carries out and advises on the creation and mapping of metadata for digital collections by applying standards and best practices.
Digital collections: Creates enhances receives and processes digital assets in order to effectively make these resources available to affiliated users. Contributes to the development of data management procedures for locally held digital collections.
Teamwork: Collaborates with colleagues in the Arts and Special Collections department as well as across the Library to support and provide services. Working closely with other members of the team the incumbent contributes to improvements to collections services and policy and procedures with a view to continuously adapting services to meet changing user needs.
Supervision: Supervises work performed by students and casual employees to organize priorities and provide guidance in the attainment of individual objectives.
What you will bring:
University degree in arts social sciences or in a related field or equivalent experience. Minimum of 3 years of professional experience supporting Digital Humanities projects and services
Knowledge of and experience with current and emerging Digital Humanities research methods and scholarship
Experience with digital asset management principles and software
Knowledge of digitization standards and best practices
Experience providing customer service
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and with users with diverse backgrounds and levels of experience
Attention to detail
Ability to selflearn
Ability to make public presentations in both official languages
Bilingualism French and English (spoken and written)

If this is a frontline position with responsibilities to interact with students selected candidates must be rated at the Low Advanced proficiency level or higher for both oral comprehension and reading comprehension in their second official language. The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.
Prior to May 1 2022 the University required all students faculty staff and visitors (including contractors) to be fully vaccinated against Covid19 as defined in Policy 129 Covid19 Vaccination. This policy was suspended effective May 1 2022 but may be reinstated at any point in the future depending on public health guidelines and the recommendations of experts.
