About the Faculty of Social Sciences

The FSS comprises nine departments schools and institutes which offer undergraduate masters and doctoral programs in both English and French. With its 10000 students 260 fulltime professors and wide array of programs and research centres the Faculty of Social Sciences plays a key role at the heart of the University of Ottawa. Its graduate students are supervised by excellent researchers and undertake cuttingedge research in the Facultys masters and Ph.D. programs. Position purpose

Coordinate all internship activities (including teaching integration seminars) practical training and administrative activities to provide a firstclass learning program and ensure student retention and success in the Department of Criminology.

In this role your responsibilities will include:

  • Plan and organize administrative and academic activities related to the practicum program and propose modifications to improve practical training and ensure that practical training is linked to the entire Extended Specialization program and the Applied Masters in Criminology.

  • Design and teach theory courses related to practical training (credit courses) to ensure analysis of professional practices reflection on personalized learning objectives and analysis of the links between theory and practice (two 1st and 2nd cycle courses).

  • Prepare and offer information sessions group meetings with students and supervisors followup meetings and recognition activities to enhance and maintain relations with host organizations.

  • Manage all stages of the internship preparation matching and completion process to ensure the successful placement of all students enrolled in the Extended Specialization and Applied Master of Criminology programs.

  • Identify select and evaluate internships to promote strategic coherence and academic relevance and ensure quality according to Criminology Department criteria.

  • Train and coach supervisors and community representatives to support and coach them in their supervisory role to ensure the achievement of practical training objectives as defined by the Department of Criminology.

  • Provide training and support to students to facilitate reflection on personalized learning objectives related to practical training development of the practicum agreement risk management in the practicum environment and relevant evaluation measures.

  • Design and implement communication and promotional strategies to inform students about the internship program.

  • Share information about the internship program with professors and collaborate with them to promote strong links between practical training and theoretical teachings.

What you will bring:

  • Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of criminology usually acquired through graduate studies and several years of experience in the field.

  • Indepth knowledge of community institutional and public organizations working in the field of criminal justice.

  • Experience in strategic planning to manage all stages of short and mediumterm internships.

  • Experience in designing and teaching university courses.

  • Ability to analyze and identify students needs in order to help them formulate their practical training project.

  • Ability to supervise the work of students on an individual and group basis.

  • Excellent organizational and problemsolving skills.

  • Interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to speak in public prepare and deliver presentations for a variety of audiences.

  • Experience in writing in both official languages

  • Experience in using various software programs such as word processing spreadsheets Power Point email and the Internet.

  • Excellent bilingualism French and English (oral and written)

The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.

Prior to May 1 2022 the University required all students faculty staff and visitors (including contractors) to be fully vaccinated against Covid19 as defined in Policy 129 Covid19 Vaccination. This policy was suspended effective May 1 2022 but may be reinstated at any point in the future depending on public health guidelines and the recommendations of experts.
