Job Description

Hello!
Were looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join the Infrastructure team in the Platform Domain.
We want someone who will add positively to the teams culture being fully remote and multi-cultural.
We are looking for profiles that have solid experience monitoring and troubleshooting large-scale application deployments on the cloud ideally including:

  • Terraform or Ansible for IaC
  • Datadog Grafana or OpenTelemetry
  • using public cloud services like AWS or Azure and
  • debugging issues in a Kubernetes cluster

Please note this is not a backend or frontend Software Engineering role.

Platform Domain

Our mission is to keep the Factorial application running 24/7 ensure its performance scalability and security as well as research improvements to enable Product Engineers to develop new use cases adding value to our customers.

The Engineering team at large

At Factorial we have a team of 150 very talented fullstack developers. We look for smart people who are curious proactive and have good soft/communication skills.
The main application uses Ruby on Rails for the backend and React for the frontend.

Your profile

  1. You are a team player: You are comfortable helping your teammates sharing your knowledge reviewing their code and asking for reviews of your own.

  6. You are T-shaped: You can tackle tasks in different areas of Infrastructure with deeper knowledge in one or two.
  7. You are a mentor: You love to share your experience and expertise to help others grow.
  8. You have roughly 8 years of experience working as a Software or Systems Engineer and at least 3 years as cloud SRE.
  9. You are used to communicating in English in a professional environment.
  10. You can travel to Barcelona once per quarter with at most half a day travel time.

At Factorial we dont evaluate you by the years of experience you have we evaluate your knowledge and skills. How We have a Career Path with a rubric framework where we define what is expected for each experience level and skill. This framework allows you to know at which level youre right now and what you need to keep growing. As we love transparency our Career Path includes the salaries for each level and we share it during the first interview to make sure were aligned.
For this senior-level position the annual gross salary is 60500 regardless of your location. This includes a base salary of 55000 and a variable pay of up to 5500 annually (paid quarterly) depending on the companys goals.

Your daily life with us

Youll start with a 2 weeks onboarding period where you will:

  1. Learn about Factorial: our product our team our clients
  2. Pair with each member of the team at least once to see their current initiatives
  3. Solve low-stake bug tickets or quick wins
  4. Commit early and often thanks to our preprod and demo environments
  5. Be fully integrated in the teams rituals from day 1

You will be a product-centric engineer taking ownership of big initiatives and being interested in the outcome not just the output. About the outcome youll also work with your team members to establish goals and plan a quarterly roadmap putting special attention to the technical needs of our domain.
You will review code and get feedback on your own code.
You will learn from the entire team both on technical topics (performance architecture) and core skills in an environment driven by engineering quality.
You will share your knowledge through the RFCs you write pairing sessions our mentoring programme or the occasional appearance in the monthly Tech All Hands.

The hiring process

If you apply heres what to expect:

  1. A first conversation with our People Business Partner. It will be about comparing our expectations and making sure we match on a human level.
  2. A second conversation with the teams engineering director. Similarly to the first one this is about making sure you are a fit and can work together.
  3. A 2h technical challenge with three Factorial engineers. Well provide an incident situation and we expect you to guide us through it like you normally would.
  4. One last coffee-chat with our CTO where you can get all the answers about Factorials culture business vision or anything else that interests you.
  5. And thats it! Feel free to request any other conversation you want with team members or to address specific concerns at any time during the process.

The whole process is remote using videoconferencing tools!
