About the Role
This handson engineering role focuses on developing and optimizing cold forming processes including cold heading and deep impact extrusion. The position plays a vital part in tooling design process innovation and new product development. The ideal candidate will bring a strong analytical foundation solid mechanical engineering experience and practical knowledge of cold forming techniques contributing to efficient and highquality manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop header tooling based on blueprints product drawings and technical specifications.
- Implement and improve cold forming processes including cold heading and deep impact extrusion to shape metal parts.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation including design drawings bills of materials and technical specifications.
- Utilize 3D modeling and drafting software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks for tooling and assembly design.
- Collaborate with tool room machinists header operators and extrusion operators to prototype test and validate tooling.
- Identify and address quality assurance requirements including tolerances surface finishes and material properties.
- Translate 2D prints into effective tooling designs that meet customer requirements.
- Support pre and postplating processes related to cold forming operations.
- Engage in secondary processing activities such as thread rolling pressing and machining.
- Design multidie bills of materials for progressive tooling applications.
- Participate in APQP processes and provide input on product and process quality planning.
- Work with MRP/ERP systems for production and resource planning.
Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in tooling design and development for cold heading operations.
- Proficiency with cold forming processes such as multidie multiblow progressive cold heading.
- Familiarity with deep impact extrusion processes.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and standard inspection methods.
- Handson experience with tool room machinery used in die fabrication polishing and assembly.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Desired Qualifications:
- 1 to 2 years of experience specifically in deep impact extrusion.
- Experience working with cold forming of copper and aluminum materials.
- Background in secondary operations including thread rolling pressing and machining.
- Exposure to plating processes related to cold forming.
- Experience designing multidie BOMs for progressive tooling setups.
- Precision machining progressive die stamping or metal forming experience in fastener manufacturing or similar industries.
- Experience with APQP methodologies.
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP software systems.
