The Alaska Court System is accepting applications for a Facilitator 1 (salary range 13) in support of the Family Law SelfHelp Center (FLSHC) in Anchorage. This position provides customer service to selfrepresented litigants in family law cases by speaking to individuals about court procedures forms instructions and referrals on the statewide telephone helpline.

Fluency in understanding and speaking one of the following languages in addition to English is strongly preferred but not required: Samoan Russian Tagalog Korean Hmong Yupik or Inupiaq.

Regular duties include:
  • Provide telephonic and Zoom customer service to selfrepresented litigants in family law cases;
  • Explain the purpose or function of available court forms and court procedures in these cases identifying applicable statutes rules and procedural requirements;
  • Assess situations presented by customers and identify needed court forms and referral information; explain how to calculate child support how to navigate the FLSHC and courts websites and provide appropriate forms and information by email fax or U.S. mail;
  • As needed interact with court staff statewide to understand customers files local procedural requirements or local resources;
  • Provide telephonic and Zoom customer service to selfrepresented litigants in all case types regarding the courts TrueFile efiling system and the online dispute resolution process;
  • Assist with the administration of FLSHC classes including Family Law Education Class and Hearing and Trial Preparation Class;
  • Participate in ongoing training opportunities with the FLSHC director staff attorney judges attorneys agency staff and others with relevant expertise; this includes training regarding court procedure divorce dissolution child support paternity and domestic violence cases changes due to new legislation new or amended court rules or new Supreme Court opinions;
  • Work with selfrepresented litigants and individuals with limited English proficiency and work with individuals who may be difficult emotional or mentally ill;
  • Assist with special projects such as helping ensure court cases statewide are covered by a language or sign language interpreter when needed creation and production of educational videos support the Early Resolution Project in Anchorage research referrals and other information as requested by the Director.

  • Experience conducting internet research with above average skill in MS Word Outlook and Zoom.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

This position is flexiblystaffed. Progression to higher level may occur after 3 years when the incumbent: 1) successfully completes a specified training plan; 2) meets all other specified terms of the flexible staffing agreement; 3) meets the minimum qualifications of the higher level; 4) is certified by the supervisor as capable to perform at the higher level; and 5) is approved by the Human Resources Department. When certified the position may be reclassified to Facilitator 2 salary range 14 ($31.30 hourly).

Work Hours
Fulltime court employees are scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday Friday 9:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. with a 30minute lunch break or 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. with a onehour lunch break.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate; AND
Two years of customer service work experience (paid or volunteer) that involved working directly with the public or clients.

OR

A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate; AND
One year of legal office work experience. The required work experience is met by service such as a Court Case Manager 1 Court Case Manager 2 Courtroom Judicial Assistant Chambers Judicial Assistant or Court Supervisor with the Alaska Court System or similar experience with another employer.

OR

A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate; AND
Successful completion of a twoyear paralegal curriculum.

OR

A bachelors degree in any field from an accredited college.
