Job Description

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Ten (10) month contract (205 days) plus benefit package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon education and experience. FLSA: EXEMPT. Salary Range: $

ALE Counselor 612th Grade

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The ALE Counselor serves as a critical support for 6th12th grade students enrolled in the Hamilton Learning Academy. The counselor is responsible for supporting students who may be performing below grade level experiencing behavioral or socialemotional challenges and in need of alternative pathways to academic success.

JOB GOAL:

To provide targeted academic socialemotional and behavioral support to 6th12th grade students in an alternative learning environment with a focus on struggling learners who are performing below grade level. The counselor will work collaboratively with staff and families to develop and implement effective interventions using Edgenuity MyPath Reading and Math and Imagine Learning Edgenuity along with the LRSD Curriculum. Additionally the counselor will support hybrid students during their oncampus days by fostering a safe structured and supportive environment that promotes engagement resilience and personal growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A masters degree in secondary counseling and certification by the Arkansas Department of Education.
  2. Arkansas certification in Guidance & Counseling 6th12thgrade.
  3. At least five (5) years experience as a teacher and/or counselor.
  4. Evidence of experience in working with students struggling academically.
  5. Evidence of strong organizational skills.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills.
  7. Strong technology skills and ability to adapt to virtual learning tools.
  8. Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
  9. Evidence of a strong commitment to quality desegregated education.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSA):

  • Deep understanding of the academic and behavioral needs of struggling learners and atrisk youth.
  • Willing to learn how to use Edgenuity MyPath Reading and Math Imagine Learning Edgenuity and related progress monitoring tools.
  • Ability to monitor and analyze student attendance grades and online course progress for both inperson and hybrid students.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage families in collaborative conversations regarding student needs and progress.
  • Knowledge of traumainformed counseling restorative practices and culturally responsive approaches.
  • Skill in building rapport with students from diverse backgrounds and managing behavioral challenges with empathy and structure.
  • Excellent organizational and timemanagement skills for maintaining multiple student caseloads and responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with confidentiality laws (FERPA HIPAA) and ethical guidelines related to student counseling.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic hybrid learning environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.   1. Promote student success while adopting a studentcentered focus that allows students to grow socially emotionally physically and academically. Provide academic counseling and behavioral support to students enrolled in the ALE program.
  2. Assist students in developing selfawareness goalsetting skills and strategies for academic success.
  3. Monitor and document student progress attendance and engagement in both virtual and inperson settings.
  4. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student attendance academic progress and behavior.
  5. Provide targeted support to hybrid students when they are on campus ensuring a structured and supportive learning environment.
  6. Conduct smallgroup and oneonone counseling sessions as needed to support socialemotional wellbeing.
  7. Support crisis intervention and connect students and families with additional community resources when necessary.
  8. Participate in student support team meetings IEP/504 meetings and other collaborative planning sessions..
  9. Support intervention implementation through Edgenuity MyPath Reading and Math and Imagine Learning Edgenuity.
  10. Formulates clarifies and interprets the goals and objectives of the school counseling program to pupils building staff parents and the community.
  11. Assists in obtaining materials supplies and equipment including Technology to be used in supporting approved instructional programs for struggling students.
  12. Promotes effective utilization of school and community resources in program development and implementation.
  13. Maintain and improve professional competence.
  14. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

Mental Functions Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk go up and down stairs operate foot and hand controls use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound near and far vision depth perception handling and working with educational materials and/or objects and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period and to be physically present and at assigned work with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year. Additional technical skills knowledge and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
